I was just looking thru the '65 Deluxe Reverb manual and noticed that they came with a 12" Jensen "Specially Designed for Fender"

I have a 12" Jensen "Special Design" speaker that I took out of a Univox amp that dated from some time in the 1960s. It sounds great.

I was wondering if these were the same speakers, just relabeled by Jensen so they could sell it to Univox.

If so would it be worth anything to a collector?

If it can be documented as an authentic artifact from the '60s then yes, the speaker will have more than merely intrinsic value. The date code ink-stamped on the rim of the frame will reveal all.

The stamps on the rim are:

220528

C12PS C8077 (last digit is barely distinguishable due to a rust spot)

S0708

Any idea what they mean?

It's a C12PS (S for "special") -- an OEM speaker made for a specific application, in this case Fender. It's a ceramic design, with a 25-watt voice coil. The date stamp translates to the 28th week of 1965, which is consistent with what is known regarding Deluxe Reverbs from this era. They currently command around $100 on the secondary market.

Cool. thanks!

I'll probably put it up on ebay sometime soon. I need a higher wattage speaker with the amp I'm using. I've been using the Jensen with a dummy load to protect it.

Thanks again!
