Hello, I am new to this forum. Hoping I can find some knowledgeable folks to converse with.

I have just a few vintage Fender amps but very much enjoy them. I used to have many more, but you know, all the ones that got away.

I have a 55 Tremolux which is my baby. It has been recapped with new speaker and PT. All else is original. Just a sweet amp.

I have a chance to get an extension cab. It looks to have the original speaker, a 12" Jenson and is in great shape. I just can't find any of these for sale anywhere to get a reference on value. This is the same size as my small box Tremolux and would be a great addition. I just don't want to over pay. I am not sure talking value is OK here but I am not selling anything. If anyone could help on this I would really appreciate it. Thank you. :D

Original to what?

Is the cabinet a genuine Fender? Documented examples of some tweed Fender extension enclosures are known to exist but they are extremely rare.

What type of Jensen and what date codes are ink-stamped on the frame?

Pics would be a big help as well.

Arjay, Thanks for the reply. I am sure this cab is a real Fender. A good friend of mine has it and he had gotten it from a music legend here in Cleve who owned a music store in the 60's thru the early 80's, Mayfield Music.

Anyway, it has been a few months since I looked at it. I believe it has the silver and gold foil label. The speaker is blue. When I put some cash together I will really go over it but at this point the authenticity isn't my question. Just wanted to come up with a fair value for it. It sure seams these are very rare though. The book The Soul of Tone shows several but I just never see them for sale.

+1

The only tweed extension cabs I've ever seen were those shown in Wheeler's book. The blackface versions (though still extremely rare) are far more common.

You need the date/production codes from the speaker to determine its pedigree. The cab may or may not be a genuine Fender -- pics would help to confirm that, especially of the interior.

I finally got a bunch of pics of this extension cab. I just can't see how to either put them in this post or in my profile. Or is there a way to attach them?

The speaker is a foil gold and blue Jenson. A P12R-C5916 and a code of 220713. There is no tube chart.. Like I said I took a ton of pics that came out very good.

You must use a remote hosting service such as Photobucket or Flickr to post pics on this forum.

The P12R you mention was made in the thirteenth week of 1957 -- not "original" to a '55 Tremolux but definitely in the period-correct "ballpark".
