No problem mixing and matching carbon comps with metal oxides -- both perform the same, the latter merely has an extended service life.

If the remainder of the resistors under the dog house look serviceable and check okay with a DVM, you can leave them in place if you wish.

alive It's ALIVE after years of silence music was heard through my amp this morning

I replaced the fried resistor, and it fired back to life

now to get the little things it needs, jewel, new cord, probably treat it to a new foot switch

:D

not cranking yet, 3 or 4 is a little loud for the living room
will still need to be sent out for a cap job and checked for something
grounding out after 20 or 30 minutes of playing

it stops working , I assume because when it gets hot enough under there
something is grounding out, but will go back to normal after cooling off

a work in progress

now want a new guitar as well after trying a blacktop strat with one of the new mustang amps
or maybe a loaded pick guard for mine(86 made in japan strat)

time and money.....

Likely a bias, bypass, and/or filter cap issue -- quite common for amps of this age.

for anyone following along
I dropped it off for repair and am waiting for an estimate
or I should say a better estimate, the shop owner wants to help me out
it needs a transformer, caps etc.. but he believes he may have some good used parts to cut the initial estimate(around $400)

I have purchased a Mustang I for the time being, kinda fun, but not using all the effects

maybe can use the twin for partial trade on a Blues Junior III
since a 100 watts is really more than I need

I'm curious why it needs a transformer. Didn't you say worked great until it got warm? I could be wrong but that doesn't sound like a transformer issue to me. Arjay, and others, would know better than me but somehow that don't make sense.

sorry, haven't logged on in a bit. I trust where I dropped it off, still waiting to hear from him , but I haven't had a chance to stop in either to check on it, may ask about using as partial trade on a blackstar. i have heard a couple being played out and they sound great with a strat, also don't weigh a million lbs

thanks for reading

for those following along I still have not made a decision as to fix or trade the twin but I did (after trying what seems like every amp in SE MA) pick up a used Blues Deluxe. not sure of year yet but 93-95 I guess is when they were out. I tried Blackstar,Vox,Peavey, Fender,Fender,Fender,Mesa. if not for budget Mesa 5:25 Combo was on top. didn't like Vox AC15 as much as I though I was going to, Blackstar reverb really bothered me. Came close to a 4-10 Music Man but as much as I liked the sound it was the wrong direction size wise

I've seen that happen a time or two -- the metal RF shielding screen can easily unravel whenever the chassis is removed or reinstalled and it only takes one errant strand of wire to short something out. Extra staples would be a wise course of action to prevent a recurrence.
