I have this rare, Fender Capricorn Combo amp. Solid State with 3 JBLs. As I understand only 35-50 of these were ever made.

I used to sell parts at the Fender Service Center in the CBS days, when the service center was Leo Fender's old facility on Raymond. When CBS sold, I bought this amp that the service technician had used to test guitars.

I bought it originally for the speakers but I didn't wind up parting it out. I need to find a place for it. Considering it's history, it feels like a shame to sell it to just anyone.

Anyone have an idea who might like to add this to their collection? It's all original in the exact same condition (which is to say used) as it was when it left the Fender plant.

Sell it to anyone who waves the requisite amount of e pluribus unum in your face.

Check Ebay to see what similar items have gone for within the last 12 months or so. I saw a Capricorn on there last night with trashy Sara Lee pie-tin replacement speakers -- the seller was asking $600 for it IIRC.

To be bluntly and brutally honest, you shouldn't hold your breath as you "wait for your ship to come in". The Zodiacs are, historically, Fender's "red-headed step-child"......a line of amps that they, and most Fender aficionados, would prefer to forget. IOW, they really sucked. Google "Bob Rissi" (one of the amp's designers) for additional background.

Best of luck, HTH

Arjay, you are truly a wealth of information. I learn something every single time I read one of your posts. Can't tell you how many times I have run off to do internet research after reading you. I'll just keep following you around, soaking it up.

The history was never really great on the Zodiac line of amps and were in short supply for good reason. The JBL's may be worth something though.

Indeed.

The problem is, most of the JBL's destined for use in the Zodiac amps were fitted with a goofy-looking orange-anodized dust cover (to match the equally goofy orange-stripe grill cloth used on the entire line of amps). Though they have no sonic effect on the speaker's performance, the orange dust cap may decrease their value.
