Hello I have a 1967 DELUXE REVERB BLACKFACE AND A 1967 PRO REVERB BLACKFACE.Now its not all as hot as before I had these tubes biased(on my PRO REVERB) My DELUXE REVERB runs pretty cool even after its been fired up for a couple hours. My Pro Reverb after an hour runs pretty Cool also but only for about an hour then this baby starts to get a little warm. Is there any thing Ican do to get this amp to run as Cool as my Deluxe ? Is this perfectly Normal? Does age play a factor here? Even Brand new were these amps always getting warm after a few hours? If it is perfectly Normal for it to get this Warm after a few hours would I cause any Damage lets sayif Iforgot and left it running the whole day? Againif I leave my Deluxe Reverb on and once Idid for about 6 hours , After 6 hours the Deluxe Reverb was still at a Comfortable Temperature.Obviously its a smaller Amp of coarse. So again my Question is because the Pro Reverb gets so Warm or Hot after a few hours, Is it safe to continue to leave it runnin? And if I can without any Modifications, What Maintence can I do to keep this amp at a Cooler Temperature? THANKS!!!

A Deluxe Reverb will most always run "cooler" to the touch than a Pro Reverb. Simply because a DR uses dual 6V6GT's which idle around 18-22 watts. And the Pro Reverb uses dual 6L6GC which idle around 36-42 watts. Some even push the 6L6GC past 50 watts.

So, just like a light bulb, 20 watts is going to be cooler and less bright than a 40+ watts.

As long as the Pro does not exhibit orangey plates and/or has too soon onset of distortion (like way below "5")... you are probably ok. If you are using that amp for any length of time, be sure it's rear end is away from walls or curtains. OR anything else that might trap heat. Sometimes, I run a small external fan pointed upward (NOT blowing directly onto the tubes), to help pull hot air away from the back of the amp.

dont know what you mean about too hot....
I have amps that run 6V6s and 6L6s. A PR, DR and SR respectively they all get pretty hot. None of those tubes I can touch after being on for even just fifteen minutes of playing.
If your talking transformers then they will get fairly warm but shouldn't get too hot to touch so to speak.
Tube amp have a lot of stuff going on. High DC voltage rectified from AC voltage. Gain stages, reverb drivers, etc. And dont forget when you are playing the current across the power tubes is constantly flutuating.
I would be way more worried if it wasn't getting hot!!!.
If everything is healthy with ur amp I would consider what you are saying to be normal...

I have a re-biased Super Champ with 6L6's. I use a small fan as well, although it is blowing directly on the tubes from the bottom rear of the amp case. It hangs from the lower back panel.
I've run it this way since I purchased new it in '83, due to the heat of the 6L6's, which are closer to each other than they would be in, say, a Vibrolux Reverb. What is your concern with having airflow directly on the tubes? It isn't a high-speed fan, just moves the heat out.

I know, I know... this sounds goofy. But, if you are indoors where the room temp is around 70F, you are ok. But, I've had folks take their amps outdoors in very cold weather (like 40F or lower). Turn on the dang thing... and no music. The cold air blowing from the constantly on fan actually may have caused the tubes to crack.

Usually, the tubes crack right where the pins go into the glass. Equals one tube with the dreaded "white guts." Who knows, the tube may have been faulty from the start and would have cracked, fan or no fan.

Another tech told me, if you are going to use a fan, just have it move the stagnant hot air up & away from the amp. And not blowing directly onto the tubes.

But, if you've had no issues. Don't sweat the details. Whatever works is fine.
