These are some older 6V6-type that I've found to be very good tone monsters. All are mil spec, 1940's era. Some can be bought off Ebay pretty good price. Biased and plated voltagea of 6V6GT.

Just got a pair of Sylvania VT-107B:

And might I add, these sound great in a 5E3.

Arjay,

I find the "coke bottle" sound the best in the tweed and SE Fenders. Very sweet, warm onset of overdrive. Besides looks sexy as hell in the amps. I kinda hunt around for them. Sometimes you find them at Hamfest. Or EBay sellers that don't realize the guitar amp potential.

Same plate volts and idle bias as usual 6V6GT.

Indeed, there are still bargains to be had. And these tube types are one of them.

Gonna try those coke bottle Sylvania VT107B in a Princeton and compare to regular 6V6GT. Will give report. Sometime, after finishing this stretch of slavery (work).

Never thought about using Ebay as a tube source...don't know why.

Only concern is of what I'm buying. I don't have a tube tester (Outside of plugging them into the amp that is...) and wouldn't know if a tube is new or used.

Is there a reference for the different "letter" designations after the numbering?

Those are cool tubes,I have some of the smaller bottles from the WWII era still going strong in a couple of amps...a few even have some small painted code on them from military inspectors,I guess.
