man ive been having so much fun with my 68 champ.
the tone is amazing. no wonder folks like clapton and ron wood swear by these amps.
they are going pretty cheap right now guys. they arent to hard to find honestly.
put ya about 3 or $400 away and start looking for one. i got mine a lot cheaper so deals can be had. man its worth every penny guys. if your a tone hound heres a sweet amp for you that cant be beat for the price honestly. ive been pushing the tele with my fulltone OCD through this amp and man i just cant put it down. i use my strat and just let the amp do its thing. i use my CarbonCopy to just ad a touch of slap which give a reverbish tone to it. if your looking for a small classic tube amp tone, these things sing.
go find one to test drive. it doesnt disappoint i promise you.

Yeah, the Champs are cool little amps,no doubt.
The first amp I owned was a tweed Champ passed down from my Uncle who used it wth a Fender lap steel in the late '50s....sadly the little tone machine is MIA,he was going to get it fixed in the late '70s and it got lost.....that was before I knew anything about the inner workings of an amp and now when I look back on it the problem was probably the filter caps, and an easy fix. :( ...hindsight is 20/20.

i love this thing rebel. man i so have over looked these amps for yrs.
cant believe the tone this thing has now since i changed the tube out.
i just want to run out and buy two or three more of them just incase lol.
its my guess not to many people on here know about them or there would be more folks with them. the price cant be beat. for a small blues amp, these things are the ticket.
i had an older vibro champ yrs ago. i was like 15. it was old then. i wish i still had it looking back. i got rid of the thing cause (like a dumbazz) i had gotten out of the shower and was standing there in a towel when something came to mind. i was standing on tile floor at the time and i grabed my guitar and hit the power switch. man i got the
pee shocked out of me lol. so that amp got traded that day for God knows what.

I love the vintage small watt amps. They are the only things I look for...... The people who own a Champ or Princeton get it. They are a ton of fun..... preaching to the choir on this one.

It plays nicely. I basically wanted a strat with humbuckers and a treble bar - my American Strat was locked down when I bought it and I too superstitious to fool with it in fear I might eff up the tone.. Honestly, I play the Charvel the least. I thought about selling it, but my son wants it someday.

I think you can find the USA Production Charvels on Craiglist for around $700-$800 now. (Depreciation) The new Pro-mods are made in Japan.

IMHO - They are very well built and worth the cash.

I like the longer scale of a Fender/Strat verses the shorter scale of a Les Paul. And this guitar lets me have humbuckers. That really drove me to buy the guitar.

There's a beater Champ Silverface sitting in the Trade-In Corner at the local GC right now. They are asking $399 for it, as is... Sounds a little ratty, just like it looks. Think I'll wait for the next one to come in. Wouldn't mind adding to the collection.

check your local craigslist bro. im telling you, these little suckers are tone monsters.
i didnt believe it. i ask ed on here about it before i bought it. i got the thumbs up.
bought it and really liked it. it sounded great but not like everybody here said it would. so i took it to get it looked at, you know, a once over. the guy told me that the tube was weak but otherwise in great shape. so again i questioned on here about what tube to get. so i bought the suggested tube. OMG the tone this lil jewel has. even sounds good with my OCD and carboncopy. i cant seem to turn it off. want a classic rock or classic
blues tone, this lil turd has it. its not a powerful tone but that classic 6v6. the harder you hit the strings the more OD you get. pick normal and you get a clean tone. a lot of OD's you control with the volume on your guitar, cut it back for less, this one, you control by your pick attack. best amp but for the money in a long time.

Waycool, the older tweeds were almost all "touch sensitive",and the BF amps to a little lesser extent, and that Champ would fall into that area....just like you explained, pick softly,it cleans up,pick harder,it distorts.
That type of sensitivity in an amp can help a blues player especially in expressing moods in the music....if he has the technique.

i love it. im trying to learn how the touch sensitive thing works.
it sure is a fun amp. i didnt realize how cool these things really are or i would have had one a long time ago. everything in its own time i guess.
