Anyone ever build an aftermarket kit of this unit? Thinking of making or getting a brownface reverb unit to go with the 1962 Pro I just rebuilt.

What's your experience with either DIY or used units?

Thanks!

I'm trying to figure out how to add reverb to my Bandmaster... just found out about the Sole-Mate few days ago, here's a demo

I'm waiting to hear it in person to decide if I want one.

I've kicked the idea around about getting one to go with my '60 Super....it's great without the reverb, and I don't use it much on my BF amps, but a little Fender 'verb adds some good seasoning.

It does sound great in that vid, I'll keep you posted when I do hear it in person. I know of at least one guy locally that uses one...

Darn brownface units are going for almost the cost of a brownface amp. Think I'll try out the re-issue model. But they'be been back ordered now. Anyone have one of these?

I don't like built-in-reverb, I use Fender outboard reverb tanks since more than 25 years. I used to own several original ones and bought the reissue in '94 when it was introduced. To me it's the best reissue "amp" Fender makes. It needs some tweaks like a NOS 6K6 and NOS pre-amp tubes. There is also a small cap change (C10) and it will sound like the original ones. BTW, the original ones vary a lot in tone, the most important part is the tank itself. Try to find a good used reissue when the Accutronics tank was still built in the US. You should be able to find a used reissue for around $ 400.

'56Strat, Thanks! What value cap you replace C10 with (in the reissued model)? Or you you go for same mfd, but a better quality manufacturer.

I have a couple of old Hammond tanks. Are these plug-&-play for the RI reverb unit?

Thanks!

Well, got me a 1963 Fender Reverb Unit. Will need usually TLC. Luckily all parts seems OEM (AH... another virgin!!!). And I may go to new shielded IC's and wiring to avoid EMF interference. Will give you good folks a blow-by-blow account of the overhaul. And that dripping well, endless well-tone I'm after.

One question. Will old Hammond tanks work in these units?

Much thanks, for replies.

The C10 is the Mixer Capacitor and I used a silver mica cap, I think around 400pf.

If you bought an original 1963 unit you don't have to do this change.

Regarding the Hammond tank; Hammond used Gibbs or Accutronics tanks as did Fender.
I am not familiar with Hammond organs, but check the part number. There is enough info on tanks used in the Fender Reverb unit on the net, this should answer your question. But again, the old tanks were not very consitant, some of them sound pretty weak. You might want to check the surf guitar forum Surf 101, these surf guys know reverb tanks.

I had one other question about this unit. Why did Fender originally use 6K6GT tubes, rather than more common 6V6GT? I know that the 6K6GT is rated for slightly less output, but a TON of sites have posts saying that they swap 6V6GT into their vintage units, no problem.

Anyhow, I was graciously given a source of NOS 6K6GT, so no problems. Thanks, again for the comments.

I don't know the answer, but I have several NOS 6K6GTs that I got with a stock of an old TV Radio repair store....I bought probably 300/400 assorted tubes for $100.
I had read the 6K6s were used in the reverb units,I just need to buy one to go with the tubes. :)
