Hi BOBROX24,

No such thing as "JJ Tesla", as JJ and Tesla are two completely different companies and tubes. JJ is a budget tube and it is unlike the former Tesla tubes, and the only connection to Tesla is that JJ uses/used some of the old equipment from Tesla, the two companies did not produce the same tubes that JJ produces now. JJ has some preamp tubes that look similar, but that's about as close as the two companies tubes come. Check the JJ site, not once is "JJ Tesla" used. Not saying that they aren't good tubes, just pointing out the misnomer. The old Tesla tubes were much better IMO. :)

Edit:
Oops, sorry! I must have screwed it up trying to be fancy with the link, i think that it works now.

shimmilou,

if I was mistaken, it's only because of what info was given when I ordered my tubes. Tube Depot refers to JJ as being formerly TESLA, so looks like we're both right. or both wrong.

rock it, man..

That's cool BOBROX24,

Maybe the Tube Depot are the "ducks" in question. Regardless, the fact remains that they are also wrong in referring to "JJ Tesla", as there is no such thing and never was. JJ bought some of the Tesla equipment, nothing more, and JJ never made tubes like the Tesla tubes, there was no "crossover" between the two companies. Tesla was still operating when they sold some equipment for certain tubes to JJ, so both companies were in business at the same time, but did not produce the same tubes at any time. Maybe a marketing ploy to pull in the loyal Tesla fans? I remember at least one poster who really liked the Tesla tubes and thought that the JJ would give him the same tubes, apparently largely based on the misnomer . :( But, that's one of the reasons that we post, to learn and try to sort the hype from facts.....well, when we can. 8)

way cool jr,

Isn't it ironic? You're trying to figure out the tonal differences in each type of tube, and look at your signature.

Seriously though, the best way to know the differences for sure would be to try a few for yourself. I have a few new tubes that I've tried based on recommendations, and didn't like so they haven't been used much. It might seem like a waste, but with sound being so subjective it's worth it to get exactly the sound that you're after, and there will be no doubt for you as to which are best. Having said that, I agree with the others as most everyone does, the RCAs are some of the best, if not the best tubes of any type for just about any amp. I am anxious for your tubes to arrive too! :)

i cant wait either. this is something new for me. i come from a heavy SS background.
i used carvin stack's when playing live back in the 80's early 90's, but never needed to change tubes. i honestly liked my peavey SS amps for smaller jam's. they sounded right ya know. only once did i replace tubes in one of my carvins. i just replaced them with what was there originally. so exploring into the relm of tubes and the different tones is all new ground for me. this will be interesting. i have several tube amps right now so this will be a great learning experience. my g.friends dad is gonna hit the garage this weekend in search of a few 6v6's so i can play around a bit. its gonna be fun.
cross your fingers brown stops at my house today.

A tube base with a bunch of small pieces of broken glass and metal on top of it?

Done

I put the same one in my Champ

joncarr,

wherever you are bro, thank you so much for picking this tube out for me.
i put it in about an hour ago and man that champ came to life.
its still very clean up on 10 but with a little extra force on the pick that O/D really
lets out its roar from that 10in speaker. i couldnt believe the difference.
i liked that amp before but not it really cooks. no wonder the likes of ron wood
really like the champ. far cry from my 68 and his early 50's but still, i see why he loves them so much.
