Wait, you have a girlfriend that helps you scour for NOS tubes? Stop wasting your money on glass and buy her a diamond already!

Those are great tubes,I've used them quite alot.
The older RCA blackplates had a dark smoky glass (actually a coating inside the glass),some consider them the holy grail of RCA tubes...but the grey plates like that one are just as good,I've used both and there's some sonic differences but like I said I'm bad at describing that, both are as good as it gets.

i need to get myself a better tube education and knowing the differences between them.
i could always just start buying them and checking them out but thats a waste of cash in my opinion. just aimlessly buying tube is a fools errand.
like lets look at the tube i bought. i saw them with dark glass, lighter colored, and clear.
the plastic base was even in different colors. there has got to be a meaning behind it all but what? thats the question.

FWIW... the very finest 6V6 type tubes I've ever used are the 6V6G/VT-107B "coke bottles." Either RCA or Sylvania. They are WW2 era mil spec tubes. Same plate volts and bias current as 6V6GT's. Sometimes, I see a guy from Canada selling Sylvania made Canadian Westinghouse labeled 6V6G for like $50 per pair. Very sweet tone. Last forever.

my girlfriends dad is one of those old timers that keep everything. she said since he builds radios, tv's, and a lot of the older electronic equipment, shes willing to bet he has a whole shiot load of tubes in the basement. i might look there for some tubes to try out as well.

Hey! Good luck with that. 6V6G are the sweetest sounding tubes you'll ever hear. They really sound better (IMHO) than grey gray 1950's RCA 6V6GT's. If you GF's Dad happens to find some NOS GZ34....

hes a cool cat too. knows every damn thing ya know. hes a retired engineer of some sort. he teaches now at her moms school. hes the weird science guy. we will swing by sometimes after hours to see her mom at school. i B-line to his lab. all kinds of cool stuff going on over there that he built for the kids. if you ask him a question your gonna be there for a while on the answer i promise you. she said he was the worst when she was younger about homework. you know how sometimes you just want the damn answer?
well she said 2 hours later he would round the corner to "answer road" lol.
hes the coolest im telling you. i enjoy going around him. i always have something i need an answer to.

If he has tubes, you will have fun looking through them.
I went to every old TV/Radio repairman in this area to dig through their old tubes,I found loads of stuff I didn't need but a few gems occasionally...like a treasure hunt.
