Good for avoiding JJ 6v6s they are larger and get hotter than other 6v6. Tung Sol makes a decent modern 6v6 a little less volume but it sounds a lot better than a JJ. But if your looking for NOS since you only need one the tubedepot has a few for a decent price. But I would go with a pair so that you know your replacement will sound similar.

Sometines a old RCA or JAN type tubes may not be as loud as modern prodction brand new tubes, but they are sometimes more creamy and smooth just without the sparkle on the high end and the boom on the bass.

Best clean top end with crunch (as fas as 6V6GT's go)... is a good NOS clear glass RCA, GE, or Sylvania 6V6GTA. The -GTA has a bit higher output than standard 6V6GT. The new reissued Tungsol 6V6GT comes pretty close to the classic 6V6GTA tone.

If you have a 43-year-old tube in your amp that's virtually dead anything you put in there is going to sound better. :)

I've never gone the NOS route but I know the vast majority of ampheads swear by them. I know JJ's have a large fanbase but moreso for 6L6s. Consensus seems to be that their 6v6s are very powerful (almost like 6L6s). I had a set of TADs in my Two-Rock a while back. Yuck! Incredibly mellow and mushy. I wouldn't suggest those unless that's the sound you're going for. I think I'm going to try some Tung-Sols next.

As for me, my Champ is rocking some awesomely stock Chinese tubes for the time being! 8)

RCAs are and always have been my favorite tubes....I think you'll be happy with the choice.

In my 68 PR I have used RCA and GE NOS. Both great. JJs are big bold tubes that have more of a 6L6GC tone than a 6V6. Not a bad thing just different. Tung-Sol re i ssues are very good but to my year are a little bland. But like anything else regarding tone its all subjective. Make a choice and go for it.

I've been a tube junkie for years, but just like everything else in describing tones,I have a hard time...I know what I like but can't put it into words.
