If you want the best 6V6 then go with NOS RCA, end of story. Forget GT, forget JJ, tried both and was very disappointed. JJs might be better if you need 6L6 but their 6V6s sound way too harsh, and the pair I got rattled from day one!

If you don't want to go the NOS route, then Tung-Sol, EH, TAD are your next option... I haven't tried TAD 6V6 yet but I'm very happy with the 7025 that I got recently. Whatever you end up with make sure you get it from a reliable seller. I got a second set of Tung-Sol from another place and they sounded nothing like the ones I got from the tube store. I've ordered different tubes from them, 6L6, EL84, 6V6... and I was always satisfied.

Why not JJ's?

Bob over in Milwaukee (Eurotubes.com) can set you up with a set to test drive if you like.

He also has a large collection of NOS tubes, he might have a set of RCA's still.

im looking at the JJ 6v6S right now.
money ran tight for a moment and i got to get something in
this amp that 100%. im picking up the amp tonight and ordering the tube.
man its hard in this area to find single tubes. i found the JJ on line
pretty cheap. cheap isnt always good but i think it will fit the bill
for right now on this amp. even the JJ will pick it up a lot better than
the dying one thats in it now.
next (tonight) im dropping off a couple of my early 80's carvin X100-b
heads. they were from my metal days and havent been turned on in like
16 plus yrs. a few of them needed tubes if i remember correctly.
bad thing is i dont remember which one is which. a couple have been
hotrodded. oh well, he will know once he opens them up. im excited to be
getting these brought back to life a couple at a time. they were ground pounders
in their day and maybe again soon. some folks didnt like them, some folks loved them.

It wont fit the bill if you want to enjoy your amp, JMO... since all you need is a single 6V6 I would pick up a NOS RCA off ebay. You're not buying a pair so you don't have to worry about 'em being matched, you can easily pick one up for ~$30 or even less. Don't rush it. If you were local I'd let you borrow one of each to confirm what I'm telling you is true :)

Well it seems like you made up your mind over JJ's. I find them kind tame. I mean they do the job. But they are not the best modern performers out there

Make sure you let us know how it went and what the tubes you chose sound like.

I have a 68 Champ that has a NOS RCA 6V6 in and it sounds fantastic and clean on anything below 3 to 4 then above that is gets anice greasey and gritty tone that I love.

For Rebel Soul, yes Clapton used a Tweed Champ on Layle, but Duane used a Princeton, FWIW

Where did you hear that Duane used a Princeton?
Everything I've ever read said that tweed Champs were used,Tommy Dowd said they were Champs and in this link it says the same thing....they were set up on the piano.
It's hard to argue with the producer and engineers.
