My Strat supposedly was owned by Donnie Dacus while with Chicago in 1979 but who knows. Didnt buy it because of it, wasnt advertised, found out later when I Googled up the serial.

+1

Play them, enjoy them, care for them, and keep on rockin'!

Impart some of your own mojo on them so that they will pass on to future generations. :D

Jorma will be in my part of town next Tuesday with Hot Tuna and Charlie Musslewhite playing at a very small venue here.Easy enough to ask him if you had it with you. That would be cool to find out huh!! I may go check em out as Charlie is one of my favorite harp players and I love Hot Tuna to boot. :P

I just saw Hot Tuna with Jorma, Jack, Charlie, and Jim on Feb 19 at George Mason University in Virgina. My wife and I had seats in the second row from the stage, seats 6 and 7. Absolutely fantastic show. The first hour is all acoustic and the second hour is LOUD!

I scored autographs from Charlie, Jim, and the Tuna mandolin player, Barry (I believe) at a signing after the show. Neither Jorma nor Jack graced the crowd with their presence afterwards. :(

I have to disagree. While hearsay is not provenance, if the provenance can be proven it will add value to the item. Obviously the person associated with the item has to be someone of notoriety.

A partscaster named Blackie has more value than a black strat of the same era.

The Eric Clapton Sale of Guitars and Amps in aid of The Crossroads Centre - Wednesday 9 March 2011 - New York

Any one really think Lot #33 - 1966 Fender Super Reverb will only sell for $2,200 - $2,800 having been owned by Mr. Clapton.

Yeah, but Clapton is Clapton,...Peter Frampton likely played through one of my Deluxe Reverbs, and I might could get provenance, but it probably wouldn't add anything to the value....but then he just sold two of his flood ruined Les Paul Customs for lots of money, depends alot on what the item is and if it was owned or just played.

No one wants to own the bed that Lincoln slept in for one night... they want the bed he owned and used every night.

No one is suggesting if some artist picked up a guitar and played through your amp for 5 minutes, that it is suddenly worth more money. Its not. Unless he puked on it afterwards and you never cleaned it up.

The amp is question was supposedly owned by someone in Airplane. If that can be proven - and provenance provided - it would have value to someone collecting early rock items. I am sure most collectors would prefer a guitar or some item of clothing over an amp; something that can be easily displayed. But the value of the amp would be increased by provenance.

Maybe you'd like to buy some stuff from Slash. Auction doesn't start for another 23 days and already min. bids have been met and some estimates already exceeded. Personally - I don't get it.

Frampton lives in Cincinnati.... I bet he's been into Mike's a number of times playing and test driving different items. That doesn't mean Mike's runs over and changes the price tags after he leaves.

I once shared drinks with Joseph Walsh in the airport lounge during a three-hour layover at Stapleton.

I should've saved those cocktail napkins......

phansford....you're not telling me anything I don't already know...... :?

I was just saying anything from Clapton would be sold for alot of money.

This morning I thought I would add something to what I have commented about Clapton.
Most all of us have looked at the Clapton auction pictures, and I would think that alot of those guitars and amps just passed through his hands, many were probably given to him,and to think that he played all that stuff on a regular basis is wrong....but because it's associated with his name,it's going to bring more than any other similar item,
like the amp phansford pointed out.
In any big music town like Nashville,Austin,LA,NYC,there's going to be hundreds of amps and guitars associated with a big name....and most of us who have been around don't get all giddy because of it....after all,the Strats that made up "Blackie" were bought in Nashville by Clapton, and Allen Woody knew the person who made the sale, and corrected me on the store it was in....I had thought it was Gruhn's,but it was Sho-Bud.
But give me something that was owned by Duane Allman,....and for once I think I would get goosebumps....it's happened with something before that Duane owned. :)

I think you would be correct in that assumption. I think its an unfortunate result of fame and collectors. At least Clapton is using the proceeds to benefit his non-profit.

Look at the listing for the Clapton Bonham sale starting tomorrow. Most of it was given to him and he just signed it, very few are from his personal collection with some history.

Funny you mention Jefferson Airplane. Going to Grace Potter and the Nocturnals show Friday night. (usually a great White Rabbit cover.) :D

And of course they are using all Vintage Fender with the exception of Catherine Popper's Ampeg and Grace's Hammond. Should be a good show.

Somewhat of a letdown. GPN probably gave the show of their lives. But lousy house sound kind of killed the sonic experience. Why do all these venues have 2000w amps and nothing but woofers in the enclosures?

P.S. Yeah, I know, not the right thread.

I've already related this story before on this forum so I shan't bore anyone with it again. Suffice to say, the gentleman was a guitarist and he had just released a solo album entitled "Barnstorm".

Gnome saing, mon?
