My vintage Fender Twin Reverb amplifier was used by Jefferson Airplane in their concert tours in the 1960's, and traded by them in the later 60's at the old Denny's Music at 39th & Division St. in Portland, Oregon. I traded for this amp and have owned it for many years. GREAT sound. The Jefferson Airplane stamped logo is on the back. I'm not sure about the date of manufacture, but the wires still have the old fabric covering.

Is there any way to verify the Jefferson Airplane provenance by serial # or other records?

Not unless Jorma Kaukonen or Paul Kantner were to step forward and provide such proof. Play it and enjoy it. And tell its "history" to those interested while sharing some brewki's. It's an interesting tale (and probably true to boot).

The last owner of my 1980 Princeton said he got it from the guitarist for The Spinners ("I'll Be Around"). I have no way to verify and it doesn't really matter anyway. It's just a nice sweet-sounding amp to me.

Rawk on!

I agree with Arjay. Great story to share a few brews over.

Wish there was an "AmpFax" that we could check these serial numbers at.

Wonder how many Vox Supah Beatles once owned by Pete Townsend would be found......?

He seems to have smashed the chit out of most of them.

That's cool to think it could have been onstage with the Airplane. :D
I have a couple of amps with a history of use by famous players, but no way to prove any of it,so I'll leave it at that.
I have played some guitars used by well known people and that's cool to hold them and think about...but I didn't sound any better. :)
Here in Nashville, there's always a guitar or amp around that's been in some famous hands.

Sounds like my Bassman which came from the Nashville area. Just have to wonder who may have used it through the years.

Not useless you have some documentation.Or to have Jefferson say it is there's.But as everyone has said it's would be a cool conversation piece

That's true...I recently saw a tweed Bassman that had come from the Luther Perkins estate,a '56 I think it was,it had been recovered, but dang,....just thinking that Luther would have played those licks through it made me want to buy it...it came with some sort of documentation, but not enough from what I was told....I would want to see pics of him with it....but who knows.

I'm not sure if they would respond.... but why not photograph the amp in detail and email them to the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. They might be able to provide some guidance - particularly if the logo was something only the band used to id their equipment.

If you still have the receipt or could get a letter from the seller - that would help.

You could try to email photos to Kanter through his publicist or agent.

These are outside chances, but worth trying. The worst that can happen is that you don't get a reply.

I highly doubt that Fender would be any help.... If its a tweed amp, Airplane probably bought it used themselves.

Jorma will be in my part of town next Tuesday with Hot Tuna and Charlie Musslewhite playing at a very small venue here.Easy enough to ask him if you had it with you. That would be cool to find out huh!! I may go check em out as Charlie is one of my favorite harp players and I love Hot Tuna to boot. :P

Jack on bass?

Sure wish Papa John hadn't checked out. He was a hoot!

Funny you mention Jefferson Airplane. Going to Grace Potter and the Nocturnals show Friday night. (usually a great White Rabbit cover.) :D

And of course they are using all Vintage Fender with the exception of Catherine Popper's Ampeg and Grace's Hammond. Should be a good show.

These stories while very entertaining are 99% of the time impossible to verify and most likely will not add monetary value to the gear, maybe just sentimental and a little extra mojo. My Strat supposedly was owned by Donnie Dacus while with Chicago in 1979 but who knows. Didnt buy it because of it, wasnt advertised, found out later when I Googled up the serial.
