I have a Fender Pro Reverb (approx seventy something vintage) that was sounding absolutely horrible. Actually had me thinking about purchasing a new amp and putting this one in the closet (or garage). Well, a couple years ago my family purchased two Celestion Rocket 50's to put in my amp. Being old and stubborn I said thanks but I want to keep it "stock". Yeah, I have changed my tune on that one. This past weekend I installed the new speakers, replaced the entire tube set with a set of JJ's (to the tune of $144.11), and set the bias on the new 6L6's. Oh my God!!! Tone is back. I never realized how badly the whole thing was working. I went to practice the other day with this bad boy and just had a blast. I'm sure the rest of the band thought I was crazy or something. You get inspired when the sound is that good, so I just blasted through the leads that I got to play. I didn't think the Rocket 50's would be that great a speaker because they weren't very expensive but they sound fantastic. Even the distortion from my pedals was perfectly defined and cut right through the sound from the rest of the band (10 pieces). Wow I feel better now. Are there any stories out there of similar situations? Rock on brothers & sisters!!!
