What's the opinion of 15-inchers for guitar use? Is the JBL D130F still considered the "gold standard?" I was thinking about a Weber (like the 15A150):

Anyone use Jensen or Eminence 15-inch for lead? Mostly for Blues and Jazz attempts.

Much thanks!

I can't speak for anybody but me, but it's my gold standard.

EV SRO is my gold standard :) but the weight is an issue...

JBL didn't do it for me clean, sounds heavenly overdriven! I've tried 2 Eminence 15s, Legend and Big Ben, Legend was the best clean speaker I heard and probably the loudest, very tight low end. Big Ben doesn't have the clean headroom but is very similar in tone to the EV, very sweet tone, that's what I'm using now.

No experience with the Jensen 15s.

Thanks, guys. Leaning toward the JBL, for now. One question will a 40watt Bassman amp push an EV-SRO well?

Thanks, again.

I bought a Weber California Ceramic 15 in one of their larger cabinets (they make a large one and a small one) for my Bandmaster head. It's a great sounding rig, and my friends tell me I have found my signature sound [ES-335>Bandmaster>Weber].

I'd be hardpressed to say I've ever heard a bad-sounding Bandmaster*, RS.

(*excludes "VM" models)

I put a Weber Ceramic 15" in my 64 Vibroverb-The Jensen-style version. At first it kind of sounded wimpy, but now it has broken in, and it is luscious! I also play a 335 much of the time, and that is a hard combination to beat-Jazzmaster sounds great through it as well.

I am severely tempted to put my Deluxe Reverb RI head in a cab with the Weber 15. I plugged it into the one I use with the BM and loved the sound.

Go for it!

Or build yourself a "Spankmaster" combo.

I guess what I meant by "can a 40 watt tube amp drive that SRO-EV" is there even a hint of overdrive, prior to the three layers of paint coming off your house's 40 year old interior walls? (no pedals).

Those of you that chose the Weber Cali, did you like the tone of the chrome domes versus paper? Vice -versa?

Much thanks!

Not much, I'm afraid. The EV-SRO's were designed and built to withstand 100 watts of continous program. That said, I used an SRO15 years ago with a Bassman head in a home-built Showman tone-ring enclosure as a guitar rig. No speaker breakup at all but it sure allowed me to open that amp up and let it breathe. Really an amazing tone. The only speaker combination that ever sounded so sweet with that Bassman were a quartet of Celestion V30's.

HTH
