Hello,
I recently purchased my first Fender amp- Silverfaced twin reverb- and for the most part I enjoy playing it. I am confused over the date of manufacture as it is my understanding that the UL transformers were used in later models but the serial number on the chassis -A88xxxx- suggests that it was made in 1975. Were the UL's made in '75 or could the date/serial number info be wrong? The speaker output is rated at 135 watts and from all I've read the non-UL amps were rated at 100 watts. Thanks for the help.

Your amp is a 1978 model.

Yeah, I saw that web page but guess I missed something. Farther down the page, the stamped chassis numbers are listed and that is the number I posted. Other sites date the chassis number to '75 so I must be over-looking something. Thanks

1970-1989 -Most amps do not have a date code stamped on the tube location chart. These codes are for amps with the serial number beginning with a letter:

B+5---digits - 1975-1976
A6+5-digits - 1976
A7+5-digits - 1977
A8+5-digits - 1978<<<<
A9+5-digits - 1979
F0+5--digits - 1980
F1+5--digits - 1981
F2+5-digits - 1982/83
F3+5-digits - 1983/84
F4+5-digits - 1984/85
F9+5-digits - 1979-1980

Your amp is the same model and year as mine.

My 76 was a 100 watt Twin with a pull boost. It was a great amp for 30 years unless you pulled the boost. Mine only was pulled once and after that it remained on 10 and left alone.

+1000

The pull-boost was great way to turn a decent amp into a sonic turd.

Subsequently licensed to Behringer for use in their "pro line" of amps.
