Oh believe me,most of us use our vintage amps and take care of them like they're members of the family,we're musicians more than collectors.

It seems like a fine cognac or Napoleon brandy my amps get better sounding with age. I have a 3 amps over 40 years old and several aproaching 30 and the tone keeps getting sweeter every time I use them.I don't know if it's my old age playing tricks on me or if the amps really do improve with age but people who come by my house for a jam are always amazed by the sound of my old amps especially the old Bassman ('69) JCM 800s('83&'84) or Traynor ('67).

Just remember that aging parts within a vintage amp are a "double-edged sword". Value-drift of various components can produce great tone......right up until the moment they severely exceed the amp's design tolerances and you end up with "The China Syndrome".

I too play vintage gear -- I have for years. But my amps are bench-checked yearly and maintained to meticulous factory specs using quality mil-spec and/or NOS parts. No off-shore junk or Radio Shack specials -- that's the quickest way to hose up a nice vintage Fender.

YMMV of course......

"Smokey” was a good name for an amplifier made from a recycled cigarette box. :D

That statement is counter productive. So you say that the sound does not matter as long as it funtions properly.

I didn't say it, pal -- Bruce Zinky did.

And without any presumptuous "due respect" pabalum, he's got a helluva lot more cred than you. Or me. Or prolly anybody else who habituates this forum.

You got vintage gear?

Show us!

Must be daylight savings time screwing us out of those other 13 days. I knew that we weren't really saving any time, we were losing it instead. :? What is up with the forum lately, it's as if some huge troll camp just let out and gave everyone computers on their way out.

So you just joined a few days ago and you're insulting one of the most helpful guys here??? Maybe you should stick to building basses and let us enjoy our time here doing what we do best, BS about the amps we don't have and wish we could have...

Oh BTW, welcome to the forum!

There's no way to flag a bad post to Brad anymore either? Must have gone away with the upgrade a few weeks back...
