ABSOLUTELY!

Dittos with tone caps (unless they exhibit evidence of DC leakage)!

+1 Most electronic parts were made to strict military spec way back. They needed to be of exceptionally high quality. Today we live in a disposable world where electronic equipment is upgraded and "improved" every other week it seems. We're all convinced we need the latest thing.

Sprague electrolytics(made in USA)are as good or "better" than any ever made.Don't change those old cathode electrolyctics and watch your expensive pre-amp tubes crack or maybe blow up in your face. These caps affect pre-amp bias(it's critical). There's not always evidence of ac leakage either.Even more important are the power supply caps as they take out expensive $@!& when they go!We don't need the latest thing we need the best thing.Period.Your amps on it's way to a fiery grave.I can almost guarantee it but like the West Coast you might get lucky with the earthquakes.Think about this parable."You feelin' lucky, punk"?

Yeah......everybody knows that every note that Duane Allman, Sam Andrews, John Cippolina, Jorma Kaukonen, Albert Collins, Chuck Berry, etc ever played sounded sour.

The above players all sucked and still suck too(i'm talkin' pickin not creativity, you don't know the difference anyway)!Dicky was the picker in the Allman Bros. not Duane(he played slide),stupid! They did use JBL's but with 1/2 open back Marshall cabs w/Marshall heads. Can you say "not Fender".This seasoning amp question is a moronic one. It's like askin',"how much of this cave hasn't been discovered yet".Most of these posts are made by people who have the "brain of a chicken and don't think before they squawk.Morons!

You're talkin' out your azz,and know absolutely nothing about Duane Allman,he could play anything and slide was only a part of it....if you had ever listened to him you would know that....he and Dickey swapped leads on every song the Allman Brothers did,and straight lead was what Duane did best,he burned on it...I know,I saw him.
Duane used Fenders with JBLs on many sessions and in bands like the Allman Joys and Hourglass before even forming the ABB....that's what Arjay was talking about.
Before you made those comments I thought you knew something, now I'm sure you don't.
You're the one sounding stupid,here.

The "gentleman's" post is as accurate as the ballistic trajectory of a casually-flicked booger and whenever such a maven aspires to publicly make an "alpha hotel" out of himself, it's best to simply stand aside and let him.

Yes I think everyone is correct about the age of the speakers, trans, and electronics...but I think everyone left out the one piece of the amp that does seem to age and sound better with time...the PINE cabinet...at least on the tweeds amps, etc,. The pine does dry out more over time and that does affect the sound I believe.

The '57 hand built PTP wired twins that Fender built for Eric Clapton were completed and delivered to EC and he said nope, not quite right, so the custom shop happened upon some 30 year old pine from a church or something and they built the cabinets out of it, and then he said, yep that is the tone! So it has got to affect the tone and not just because EC says so, but it sure does make sense to me.

FWIW

I saw Duane Allman's Les Paul at the Rock N Rolll Hall of Fame.

I just stood and daydreamed for a minute.

Sorry off topic, but I think that moment at the shrine of D A has certainly made me an expert in all things Allman Brothers

Man you need to go down to Macon and visit "The Big House"...that's where they lived for a good while and it has been turned into an ABB museum....talk about drooling!
I went there years ago when Kirk the road manager lived there and it was only on the first floor, now the whole house is open and you can go into Duane's bedroom for some true inspiration!
Here,check it out....http://www.thebighousemuseum.com/
