I have a 78 vibrolux reverb.Every time i plug my guitar cable into just the vibrato jack i get a pop it does not matter if it is input 1 or 2. But i have also noticed that i get a similar pop or click when i switch a position on my stratocaster say going from the bridge to the bridge middle position.I sprayed contact cleaner on my cable and inserted a few times on each input. When i had her open i also took sandpaper to the contacts.I have no ideas right now besides taking the jacks out and resolder everything and really get into the cracks of the jack. or replacing the 1 meg resistor and 2 68k resistors and input jacks,it just runs to pin 2 on the tube with a coax cable.Could it be some grounding issue.Any ideas would be appreciated

You could have a bad coupling cap or resistor in that part of the circuit. Maybe the "ol WOODEN Chinese chopstick test. Probe the parts in the area of the input of the Vibrato section. Use only one hand on the chopsticks. Avoid placing the other hand on the chassis (which will need to be removed to do the testing).

Speaker(s) connected. Volume near zero. No input at first. Then try with guitar plugged in and tap those grounded 1meg and 68k-ohm resistors.

Good luck with that!

A bad cap might not necessarily be microphonic to the point of detectability with the chop-stick trick. Leakage of DC voltage is just as likely in these old warriors and the diagnosis will require some actual test equipment.

It seems a kind of ESD discharge or a unexpected DC voltage grounded by the guitare itself , make sure that the 1MOhm pull down to ground is functionnal (or 68K).
