So i was out with the woman today on this nice warm day, and we went into a music shop, i was checking out amps as usually. So i decided to play a 65 deluxe reverb reissue. So i was playing it for a few minutes and not really digging the tone. Then the woman comes up and says "That amp sounds like crap". I thought it was funny with all the vintage amps that i have, the woman could hear a difference in tone on modern amps versus vintage amps, and she don't play any instrument.

Are you sure that the crummy sound was the amp's fault? (JK!)

It would be interesting to use those lovely ears to compare both amps in the same environment at the same time with the same guitar and same knob settings on each amp, ie both amps in your room maybe behind a curtain (blind test). I take it that you didn't bring your own guitar with you for the test, which could account for some of the tone difference.
