Anyone use a set of these tubes, over a period of time? How'd they last and what's their tone like compared to NOS RCA's? I'm interested in the 8-10 scale range.

Thanks!

I bought a pair of those and they sound decent,I wouldn't compare them with RCA at all...but that's just me.
I've tried them in my '66 Pro Reverb and also in a '60 Super,( I swap tubes quite often, experimenting) but the base on them seemed to show signs of heating because the label discolored but that might just be the way it does, but still they just felt hotter....that may sound weird, but if you do this long enough, and I'm sure you have, you can sense it feeling different....and they were biased right for the amps....not cherry plating.
Long story short, they sound pretty good,I haven't got them in anything right now so I can't tell you how long they might last, but to me,the Winged C SED 6L6's sound better, and that's what's in the Pro now...a set of NOS Philips are in the Super.

I like St Petersburg made 6L6GC (ex: Svetlana, now SED =C=). But they will NO LONGER be made in the near future. In fact the St Peterburg's plant may soon be shut down forever, unless some large influx of money is soon found. Like what Vacuum Tube & Eric Barbour did in the late 1990's.

So just looking for good 6L6GC stock available. Have offer for several quads of GT-6L6GC "red's." I have been using NOS 6L6GC and Reflektor 6P3S-E (6N3C-E). Pretty good success.

I have been having some issues with newly made JJ power tubes and rectifiers. QA has been recent problem. At least in my experience.

That's really tragic about Svetlana......the winged C's are really a robust-and-great-sounding tube.

The Electro-Harmonix 6L6EH seems to be a pretty decent bottle. I'm into my second year of "field-testing" a pair in a '66 Bandmaster and thus far they've held up fairly well.

Thanks, Arjay for the comments. Have you tried the new Tungsol RI 6L6GC-STR? They are getting some pretty good early reviews:

Dang, that is bad about the Svetlana plant....we really need some great tubes that rival the USA made tubes, but it's doubtful there will ever be anything as great as RCA tubes or original GE or Tung-Sol or......... :(

I thought that the GT 6l6 GE was supposed to be a re-manufacture of the original GE tubes, not RCA. Were the US made GE and RCA tubes comparable? :?:

The GT GE tubes are supposed to be made in the US to the exact specs of the originals using some of the same equipment, but then I have read conflicting reports that some of the manufacturing materials and process are restricted in California and that they are not exact repros of the old GE tubes....so,who do we believe?
All the old manufactured USA tubes were comparable, and had different sounds, but back then when they were readily available in stores, you usually bought what they had.
Most of the mystique about some of these tubes has been generated by the internet tube gurus and the scaricty of NOS tubes...don't get me wrong,I do believe they were/are better than current overseas production tubes.....but look who is making big bucks on those NOS tubes now.
I think Arjay will agree that when we could go to the drugstore and test out tubes on the store tester and if they were found to indeed be bad,we didn't spend more money than was necessary on new tubes,we bought replacements and stuck 'em in the amp and let 'em rip. :)

Indeed!

Winn-Dixie......the only store in town where you could buy Post Toasties, 30.06 ammo, snow tires AND tubes for your Philco TV or Sears & Roebuck "Twin Twelve" amp!

Ahh, those were the days.

Back when TV repair men and MDs both made house calls. And the TV guy actually had a tube tester and 'O' scope in the van.

+1

And the "Golden Arches" actually had a pair of golden arches as an integral part of the restaurant's architecture.

I liked it when the TV repairman came to the house dropping that huge repair tool kit next to the "set",I would sit close and watch him replace tubes and stuff...guess that's part of why I like changing tubes today.

How many of you whip on your Official NASCAR Mechanix Gloves before rolling power tubes? Makes me feel so "professional." I can replace all power tubes in an Ampeg SVT in 12 seconds. And that's after turning the amp off, 5 seconds prior to tire, oops---tube changes.

I think the Coast Guard secretly knew I did that as well. They made an ET out of me. Shame the only thing I worked on was big ole LORAN xmtrs and timers. Ya, they were all tube as well. Water cooled power tubes.
