Got around to testing the new TungSol RI in my Princeton Reverb with an old Telecaster. The 6V6GT's presently in amp are mil spec RCA VT-107A (1945 vintage). Initial test the TSRI has just as good bass as the RCA's. Very strong and hold a steady bias.

The RCA have a slightly sweeter, cleaner top end. Will put about 20 hours onto new tubes and see how they sound. So far, about the best new 6V6GT I've heard in a long while.

I have high hopes for those TS re-issues. Keep us in the loop as the field-testing progresses.

I've wondered about those also, thought about getting a pair and test driving them in a DR.
I'm really hoping that they will be a good 6V6,there needs to be some out there.
I have no experience with new production 6V6s,I spent several years putting together a nice stash of American made tubes like blackplate RCA's mostly, but man,I hate to use them all up,I probably won't live long enough to though.
I think that kind of makes me a tube hoarder,I want them but don't want to wear them out because they ain't making RCAs anymore....weird huh? :)

We really need a respectable new-production 6V6GT at a reasonable price. I've got a small stash of NOS but if I add any more 6V6 platforms to my collection I'll be rowing up that notorious creek with a mighty small paddle -- I think I only have eight or nine matched pairs left.

I got a quad from Jim McShane: "6V6GT Tung-Sol reissues, these have gotten rave reviews from guitarists and audio fans, not too many places to buy them just yet. I've got pairs and quads in stock! $16.50 ea., $34.50/pair, $69.50/quad."

He tests all of his tubes for quietness, strength, and matches them well. Ships them well-packed. The few times that I've had issues with tubes from him, he has quickly and gladly replaced them. Just my experience. His website is old school. But the tubes are first class. Culled for noise, strength, and good matching.

Best to email him for latest stock at:

I use them and think they are very good. very clean, nice amount of mids. meant to be a very good addition to any tweed style amp

A friend has just installed a pair of T-S re-issues into a PRRI. It sounds positively stunning now -- great bass, very organic, and much more articulate overall. Prior to that he had replaced the OEM speaker with a vintage Jensen P12Q so the infamous "flab" had been eliminated whenever he dimed the amp. I fixed a irritating buzz in the cabinet -- now it's a rock-solid rig, ready to rock.
