one more quick question: the vibrato in this princeton doesn't sound as full and lush as the one in my previous amp (custom vibrolux reverb). can i swap out a tube or do anything to rectify the situation?

The tremolo circuit in a PR is unlike most of the blackfaces or re-issues in that it operates directly upon the output tubes by modulating the bias. This was Leo's first of three distinct tremolo circuits, debuting in the tweed Vibrolux amp of the 1950's. It was carried over into the small "student model" amps of the blackface era (Vibro Champ, Princeton, Princeton Reverb, and Bronco). It's possible that your lack of depth (ie: "lushness") is tube-related. It also could be the result of some "component drift" though that seems unlikely in a relatively-young '79 amp.

The V4 (7025) is the tremolo driver. You might try replacing that (a 12AX7 or 12AX7A can be used).

Here's the schematic for your amp......

That's why we're here, sir.

Best of luck.
