So I'm sure most already know of the 2007 Boss pedals that mimic the bassman, deluxe and spring reverb, so I'm just wondering what do you guys think of them? Personally I own them all, also I've played those fender amps too and I must say the pedals are not to bad. Sure they're not excatly the same but they come pretty close and putting em into a fender hotrod deville gives a nice touch as well! So what do you guys think?

If you own these amps, why play the pedals?

In that case, I'd rather have the amps than the pedals that purport to emulate them.

We own all three pedals.

My son now has the two "amp" pedals and he uses them as distortion pedals - which is how Boss classifies them. They are okay. They will make a so-so amp sound better. We actually put them in front of the Vox Valvetronix and the pedals made the amps come alive. So I guess I am saying the pedals model the amp better than the Vox modeling amp.

I can't compare the pedal to the actual amps. And I think it depends a great deal what amp you are putting the pedals in front of. I had an 1980's solid state Crate and the pedals did nothing for that amp. :(

Now I own and use the Reverb pedal. Its has a good price point and provides better reverb then the on-board effects of my Vibro-Champ XD (which I am now selling.... I am done with modeling amps). The controls of the pedal are the same as the actual reverb tank and I have been able to get comparative tones out of it.... I have played the Youtube vids from Fender and then tested the pedal against the vid. I bought the pedal with the intent of putting in front of my SF Princeton as to create a poor man's Princeton Reverb

All of that being said.... I would love to own a reverb tank or possible a analog spring reverb pedal such as Van Amps Reverbmate http://www.vanamps.com

If you like the pedals..... then that's all that matters.

"Johnny Static" will be heartbroken.

Yeah - He'll probably kill himself.

They're fine amps for newer players or people who don't collect the vintage stuff. I bought it to use everyday.... but I found myself playing the vintage amps more often then not.

BTW - What are your thoughts about the Silvertone 1482's? I thinking I might start looking for one. I was trying to haggle a trade for one with the Vibro XD plus $50/$75 in cash.

The vintage Silvertones were made by Valco/Supro......they're pretty sweet actually. I remember as a kid we all pooh-poohed anybody who owned a "Sears & Roebuck" amp but the Twin Twelve put out some mighty respectable power for what it was. I remember a whole band a couple of blocks over from where I lived that plugged into one (two guitars, bass, AND a mic)(!). It didn't sound great under those conditions but it was still fairly loud......louder than my 8-watt Alamo.

Yeah, if you can swing some kind of trade, I say go for it. There are a couple of Silvertone-dedicated websites with a lot of vintage catalog pics, specs, schems, etc.

I have the Oahu Suitcase boutique to get that Valco sound.

Those 1960's silvertones are Danelectros. My understanding - and watching the youtube vids - is that they break up at about 4. The 1482 is their version of the tweed deluxe circuit with tremolo (as I understand it).

If I can get one for $200 -$250 (in trade), then I will probably pull the trigger.

Can I blame you if the wife finds out and want to kill me.

This guy does a great job and actually tracks sales and has about a 3 year history as a reference. I have used his website as a reference and a price guide when I am trying to bid on anything Silvertone.

Plying Devil's advocate here, one reason might be so a person could use it as a lead/solo pedal while still attempting to remain reasonably close to the tone of the amp. Not sure how well that would work but when I pondered your question that idea came to mind.

I understand why someone would buy the two "amp" pedals.... and again.... we own all three. Reverb is reverb.... and there are a ton of reverb pedals out there.... the '63 FVB is just out there in the mix.

1. You can spend $120 per "amp" pedal and do a decent job replicating the sound of the amp. The cost of the vintage amp is 8 to 10x that.

2. Some people don't feel comfortable buying vintage amps. (just leaves more of them for us)

3. The pedals do make a so-so amp sound much better. (depending on the amp).

I want to be open-minded and not ridicule equipment and players. There are people out there enjoying these pedals and people out there groovin' to the vintage amps. Sounds like a good place to be.

Guilty Pleasure confession - Personally - I like the crunch I can get out of the Bassman Pedal. I have played it in front of my BF Champ. I've only done that a couple of times, but it real fun.

My son has both two "amp" pedal in his pedal board and typically runs them through his Vox Valvetronix (boutique setting) and they sounds killer. 90% of the time, he's playing through the '69/70 SF Princeton connected to his new 2 x 12 cab by Jet Amp. THAT sounds killer. (Santa though he needed more power and Santa got good advice from a forum member about adding the 2 x 12 cabinet)

That was a real common thing when I was a kid. I loved the Valco/Supro stuff.
I wish I had an original Thunderbolt to go with my 63 Supro Martinique.
