Amp: 1968 Ampeg Portaflex B12XT (I know it's not a Fender, but you guys are my go to for this type of stuff).

Problem: Rattles at higher volumes, increases or decreases depending on what not I'm playing. It sounds like what happens when you run your fingers over a comb, rattling increases as volume goes up (Only louder cuz it's amplified >_>). It only started doing this recently, a little bit a month ago but it has increased to the point where it's annoying.

Noob Diagnosis: I separated head from cab and the sound is definitely in the cab. I placed my hands on the the handles, speaker covers, screws, etc... but to no avail. I did notice, however, that the the big aluminum dome on the back of the left speaker (Both are original Jensen EM1202s, similar to C12Ns) is loose (I can move it back and forth, didn't pop it off though). The other one feels like it's glued.

Is this backplate the problem (if not can you suggest other probable causes), and if so how can I fix it?

Magnet covers are held fast to the speaker frame by that single visible screw. Make sure that it's as snug as can be.

As suspected, my amp had a screw loose. After tightening it til it was taut it only makes that sound above 85% volume with the bass knob full on, and it only makes it for a fraction of a second rather than sustaining it. Since i don't play at 85% volume with a lot of bass, I'll consider this a fix. Thanks for pointing that screw out Arjay, I have a habit of overlooking the details no matter how obvious they may be. ^^

You'd do well to check (and tighten if necessary) the nuts holding the speakers to the baffle board. These frequently work their way loose, even on relatively new amps. Do not over-tighten......about 20 inch-pounds should do it (slightly more than finger-tight).
