WELL PUT IT THIS WAY,I last year loved the sound of solid state and modelingamps like the vox valvatronix amp and i thought that was great and all u wouldreally need . until someone who i admired suggested tube amps and i was blown away and i feel ridiculous thinking that those solid state amps were all u would need so i truly value information on what people like u prefer, ohby the way can u answer that question about sustituting a bigger cabinet for the main speaker thanks

Hard to say, koocho.

Swap the Vox speaker into the DR and see how that goes.

You can always trade them back if it does not sound agreeable.

BASICALLY ITS LIKE TRYING DIFFERENT SPEAKERS WITHOUT ACTUALLY INSTALLING THEM IN THE AMP ,AND THEN UNISTALLING THEM . WOULD THE CABINETS SIZE MATTER IN A DRAMATIC WAY? OR WOULD IT BE PRETTY ACCURATE HOW THAT SPEAKER WOULD SOUND IN THE AMP ?

With an open-back infinite-baffle type enclosure, probably not. However, the composition of the cab and how the baffle board is affixed to it can affect the tone.

Trying different speakers while they're in another box, cabinet,or amp could sound different depending on size of the cab and materials like Arjay said, and I've done that alot but what I have found is that most of the time if you like the sound of the speaker you're trying out,it will sound at least as good when you swap it and install it in the amp....most of the time, better.

? WHAT PROS USE THESE SPEAKERS? THANKS

SRV was a big EV user, loud and clean and didn't distort like some of the other speakers...

I tested a bunch of speakers recently, yes they do sound different in a combo vs a cab of a different size or closed-back, some sounded better in the amp while others were better suited in a bigger closed-back cab. My advice is to test the speaker in the amp itself to decide whether you like it or not.

I've got an old Bandmaster pine cab loaded with EV/SRO 12L's that sounds fantastic with either my Music Man HD130 head or a 50 watt plexi clone. Joe Bonamassa is an EV user. Alot of guitarists used higher power speakers. Randy Rhoads, Dickey Betts, Duane Allman were a few just off the top of my head. I would post a pic but unsure how to.

Yeah,I think Duane loved JBLs,there's a picture of him in the studio in front of a Twin Reverb with them.
