I THOUGHT I should just start start a new thread asking about what SPEAKERS WOULD BE SUITABLE FOR THESE BLACKFACES.Nowif playing a certain type of music or style is needed to give a certain suggestion, ID LIKE A SPEAKER THAT SOUNDS GREAT FOR ALL TYPES OF STYLES!!!! Now in my 1967PRO REVERB BLACKFACE I HAVE 2X12INCH FENDER UTAHS AND TO ME THEY SOUND FANTASTIC .(BUT THEN AGAIN I HAVENT HEARD ALOT OF COMPARISONS TO WHAT COULD BE BETTER OR WORSE)When u hear something u like should u just stop there or keep trying out more speakers?Being from the toronto area in canada I CANT ANYWHERE IN THE WHOLE PROVINCE GO OUT AND TRY A BLACKFACE(NO ONE HAS ANY!!! NOT ONE!!! THATS WHY I KIND OF BUY THESE BLACKFACES BLINDLY ,AGAIN WITH A 7 DAY RETURN POLICY WHAT DID I HAVE TO LOSE) So after having them checked out from top to bottom from a pro amp tech(I TOTALLY LUCKED OUT BOTH THESE AMPS ARE MINT)(PLEASE CHECK OUT MORRIS AMPS.COM OR .CA NOT SURE),GLEN MORRIS IS A GENIUS AND WORKS ON AMPS FROM POPULAR CANADIAN BANDS SUCH AS RUSH AND KIM MITCHELL FORMERLY KNOW AS MAX WEBSTER) ANYWAY I AM PUZZLED WHY I DONT LIKE THE JBLD120F SPEAKER SO many of u really love them including some of my favorite guitarists such as ERIC JOHNSON(NOT SURE IF HE LOVES THEM BUT I HEARD HE HAS 2 OF THEM IN HIS FENDER TWINS) SO IM REALLY HAPPY BELIEVE IT OR NOT WITH THE FENDER UTAHS IN MY BLACKFACE PRO REVERB AND AFTER SUSTITUITING THE SPEAKER ON THE BLACKFACE DELUXE WELL I MEAN UNPLUGGING IT AND PLUGGING IT INTO MY VOX V112 HTV THIS BLACKFACE DELUXE SOUNDS TO ME LIKE HEAVEN ,IT HAS A MADE IN BRITAIN VOX BLUE CELESTION IN IT 1X12INCH SPEAKER OR SOMETIMES ITS CALLED A BLUE BULL DOG SPEAKER TO ME THE JBL IS TOO BRIGHT AND THIN AND IT HAS A TIN PINGY SOUND TO IT I WOULD AGAIN JUST LIKE YOU THOUGHTS. THANKS AGAIN!!!!

I don't know much about speakers, but I like the original utah's. Good luck in your search, I miss my old 65 bandmaster. Hope to get a black face amp again.

Everyone who takes the time to read my posts know I put Weber speakers in mine, but that's just me.Weber builds them per order and you wait for around 7/10 days to get them but it's worth it to me.I've had others in my amps like the Reissue Jensens, which are not much like the originals, but will do in a pinch, and a '66 Deluxe Reverb had a JBL K series speaker in it when I got it.The '66 Pro Reverb came with the original Utahs and I didn't care for them either.
I have a mixture of Webers in my amps,I think my favorites are the Alnicos, which have a warmer sound and the BF Fenders need warming up in my opinion,to take out some of the ice pick treble...the Webers keep the highs, but are not too shrill.
Tone is very subjective, and what I like might not be what you like....I would like to try a Tone Tubby hemp cone speaker,it might sound so good I might replace my Webers.

BTW,don't be puzzled why you don't care for the JBL because Eric Johnson likes them,he doesn't even keep things the same all the time,I've read a comment by his drummer saying he tries different things constantly.

Upgrade your D120F to a D130F

EJ has a very unique tone, violin like, I'm not that familiar with his setup but I'm sure there are a bunch of pedals involved... so it's not just the speaker, and a lot of it has to do with his fingers and picking technique IMO, EJ still sounds like EJ even when playing an acoustic! I'm more of a plug-n-play kinda person, the only pedal I would use is a tube screamer. I mentioned before that I didn't fall in love with the JBL tone when playing clean but it is very sweet with a tube screamer.

What kind of tone are you after, besides EJ? What kind of music do you play? Are you looking for a bright or warm tone?

Oh another question, is the D120F in your DR a "new" speaker? Was it recently reconed maybe? If so you might need to break it in before it's starts sounding sweet. Just a thought...

If you like the Blue and it's more like the tone you're after then consider something similar.

i take it u dont like this speaker?
its not permanent he wanted me to give it a go for w week . one question arajay ,By unplugging the speaker and lets say I run the deluxe through a cabinet, The cabinet is a few inches bigger than the deluxe right (you follow me) suppose I like that sound of the cabinet, again not using it as aEXT cabinet but asthe main speaker, would that speaker sound exactly the same when installed in the amp or will it be a alot different sounding in the Bigger cabinet ( I hope im making sense ) Can u also be more specific about your thoughts on the EV THANKS!!

"Lightnin' Jimmy Cedar" (aka cedarblues) dug that tech site up, koocho. We're in his debt.

Nope.

I loved the EV-SRO15 when I had one about forty years ago.

I think you should do whatever sounds good to you.

Every player is different and every player's gear is different. The only constant is each player's ear and what pleases it.
