A frend ask me for my thoughts on a 78 PR with the push pull volume. I thought its not the best of the Princeton line but would still be a damn good amp. I haven't told him anything before getting some more info. Any thoughts here? Oh yeah there asking $800. for it.

I own a 77 pull boost and it's a great amp - just don't use the pull-boost and the tone path is virtually the same since the amp was introduced. I paid $450 for mine in 2003.

Buy it and then tweak it - since it's newer, there's no harm in adding a new filter cap can, updating older electrolytic caps; on mine I also put in a Deluxe Reverb OT. I prefer the Mazda NOS glass for the 6V6's; I've been very happy with Mike Kropotkin at kcanostubes.com. He has the right tube depending on your amp, tone goal and budget.

FYI - if you get a 1x12 extension cab, your Princeton will be a whole new animal for playing live.

I say go for it!
