I would never countenance installing a Celestion Blue into a DR or DRRI due to its relatively modest (15 watts) power-handling capability. I'm sure FMIC will eat quite a few of these under warranty service. The Gold is a great alternative albeit with a substantial surcharge.

One thing is true about the JBLs like cedarblues said, most either love them or hate them,me,I'm not cray about them in the Deluxe because they are very bright speakers,at least in my experiences with them.Blackface amps are described as having scooped mids, and I agree,my ears like to hear more midrange without using stompboxes or whatever, and then go from there once I find the speaker sound I like plugged straight in.
What I try to do is find a speaker that will soften the brightness of the highs and mellow things out a bit but not to the point that it gets muddy.
Each amp is different and even though I have a Weber speaker in each, some are ceramic magnets and some are Alnicos,I made a speaker wire with a male and female connection and will play an amp with different speakers in other combo/cabinets and make a decision then...but everybody has their own likes and dislikes.
You have to experiment.....but like Arjay said, pay attention to the the power handling capabilities of each speaker.
One other thing,if you get a Weber, get light doping at least (their website explains doping),because you can experience "cone cry" with high notes at higher volumes,I don't worry about it because some of my speakers do it,it's just another effect.

ARAJAY your probabl again going to think im nuts but im not very impressed with THIS JBLD120F !!! iT SOUNDS very bright and pingy

BTW it's Arjay not Arajay

JBL D series are not for everyone, a lot of musicians I talk to either love 'em or hate 'em... I have the 15" version (D130F) that I use in my DRRI, there are some things I like about it and some I don't. When playing at home, usually clean tone straight into the amp, I find that I don't like it and end up putting the other 15" I have. Now, when I put a tube screamer in front of it for that nice creamy warm Bluesy tone it is a completely different monster! Specially when playing with a band, heavenly tone that never gets old!

If you like the tone of the Celestion Blue then you should consider getting the Celestion Gold for your DR, a great sounding speaker but a bit pricey. You can always give the JBL to Arjay
i dont why i wouldnt like it?(the jbl)
ive heard eric johnson uses them in his twins and i absolutely love eric johnson. what would this jbl be worth? maybe i will give it to arajay he has been an absolute help for me

I made the suggestion to Brad some time ago (cedarblues will back me up on this) that the Forum open a new section devoted to speakers. However, this was just about the time that Brad & co began working on the new updated format we now have. A dedicated speaker area may yet become a reality though. I'd also like to see a "room" devoted to effects.

Koocho, contact me via PM and I'll have some speaker alternatives for you.

Arjay
