i just got a Musicmaster bass amplifier and it has some problems. once it warms up it starts making a noise kind of like a television when "snow" is all you see in the picture. it's independent of the volume and when i unplug the instrument it still makes the noise. it has a 12ax7 and 2 6v6's..........i think. anyone have a clue as to what might be causing the trouble? i pulled the tubes and the LOOK ok with nothing broken loose inside and they arent all white and hazy looking either. the amplifier LOOKS almost new with just a few scratches in the silverface letting you know it isnt a new amplifier. i think it's always been inside a house and not stored in a shed or garage. i'm proficient with electronic repairs and soldering just not in diagnosis. any clues folks?

It could be a bad solder.

Or dirty tubes socket ; remove all your tubes and plug it in their sockets. Do that many times, this help to clean pins. If you can spray contact cleaner on tubes pins before plug in socket it would be better.

Yes dirty tubes sockets

it turned out to be bad caps. i'm replacing them all.as soon as the snow and ice clear up there is a small shop in west columbia that sells parts for vintage amplifiers.

I dont think is a bad cap problem. A 12AX7 problem.
--------------------------------------------------------
You said " once it warm up it start to make noise"

How long before noise; less than 1-2 minutes : tubes or other parts
More than 2 minutes; how much ? this could be resistor
----------------------------------------------------------
Check your 12AX7 tube. A bad tube don't look bad or broken, you can't test by looking it.

Do this test; amp OFF, remove your 12AX7, just let power tube in. Power amp ON. Do you ear the noise ?
If no, noise is coming from a 12AX7 or his circuit.

A bad cap you will ear " hummmmmm" not tv with snow, this is " hisssssss"

i unplugged then plugged back in the tubes probably 25 times, thinking this would clean the sockets, that turned out to be the problem. it works fantastic now and sounds even better than it did.

I Have A Musicmaster Bass Amp That I Got When I Was 16. It Has Never Given Me Any Trouble And Never Blown A Tube In All These Years. It Has One 12" Speaker. 12 Watts. Two Inputs. One Volume And One Tone Control. Still A Great Amp.
