I'm looking for some advice on some new speakers for my blackface Bandmaster cabinet. I use it with a '66 Tremolux head and up until now, it sounded sweet. One of the speakers blew a few days ago. I've never replaced speakers in any of my amps, so I'm looking for advice.

Would it be advisable to change only the blown speaker? or to change both?
What speaker brand and model will be the closest to the original speakers?
Anyone use a 212 with a Tremolux? Have any recomendations for models/brands?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Here are some pics.

The Oxford 12T6-1 was only used in the Twin Reverb and Bassman amps, and in point of fact your cab looks like a Bassman.

You can take a couple of different tacks here -- have both of the original Oxfords re-coned (about $75 each, depending upon where you're located) or replace one or both of them with something else. That "something else" depends upon the tone your're looking for. For modern rock, some of the Eminence ceramic models are very good. For vintage vibe I'd recommend the alnico Weber 12A150. You can often find speaker bargains on Ebay.

Best of luck, HTH

My girlfriend blew a speaker once. She needed the money, hooooooo!

But seriously, does the speaker cab come with all of that insulation from the factory, or was it added? :?:

Those damping sheets are all original.

Yes, 7ender cab come with insulation. I think it's the only guitar amp company with insulation.

I had a cheap cab at home from '60-'70, I improve it with a good speaker and later I put insulation in; this make a difference you can hear ,a much better.

Nope.

I once owned a Sunn Sceptre and its 4 x 12 cab contained similar damping sheets.
