I was curious about the reverb on my Super Twin Reverb. Basically it's terrible. With the reverb cranked up to 10 it's barely present with a short decay, I'm expecting some serious spaghetti western sound here but it's not happening. Is this common for this amp? If it is, is there a mod to fix that?

try replacing the 12at7 closet to the right. usually its a bad tube.start with that or check the connnections and make sure they are seated properly

The Super Twin Reverb shares its basic reverb circuit architecture with tens of thousands of other reverb-equipped Fender amps but adds a twist: the tubes used to drive and recover the effect are each one third of a triple-triode sub-miniature, in this case a 6CX8 and a 6C10. These tubes are rare and command a premium price. Here's the schematic for the Super Twin Reverb......

To troubleshoot, I would start with the obvious (and least-expensive) steps -- check the tank itself for continuity, then the wiring and associated jacks. The reverb is designed to operate without the footswitch so disconnect and isolate it from the chassis. If the reverb returns with the footswitch removed then that's the culprit. If not, then further examination is necessary. Frankly with an amp this old, I'd be surprised if it weren't either or both of the reverb tubes.

Best of luck, HTH

Thanks for the tips. The circuit is fine, I tested it the other night, the foot switch isn't the culprit. I actually replaced the verb tank with one I know sounds better and it wasn't helping. I may try replacing the tubes. And yeah, you're right, those tubes are hard to come by. I'm ordering some at a pretty hefty price.

If they're good ones (ie: new) they'll last a decade or more.

IOW, money well spent.
