I have a 1963 Fender Deluxe amp that I am trying to resurrect. The amp itself is in pristine shape. A new set of tubes was all I had to do for it.

However, the speaker is in bad shape. There are a couple of tears in the cone. I know I can buy a replacement Jensen for about $100, but I would really like to keep the original Oxford.

Does anyone know where I can buy a recone kit? I've watched numerous tutorials about how to do it, and it does not look like rocket science.

Thanks.

It might be easier to find a serviceable period-correct Oxford 12K5 on Ebay. I've seen them listed periodically, usually from $75 to $90.

Best of luck, HTH

If you're absolutely hell-bent on keeping your amp all original (FTR I would be too) you might get hold of Ron Neal in Sacramento. He taught Moses how to part the Red Sea and has reconditioned virtually every type and brand of speaker that's ever been made. His work is exemplary and his prices are reasonable. He does all my JBL work.

Thanks for the tip. I am going to see if I can pick up a replacement on ebay. We have a place here in Memphis that services speakers, but I have heard less than stellar reports about the quality of their work from friends. I'll hold on to the link to the guy in California.

Thanks again.

"Rebelsoul" is down in your neck of the woods. If he logs in here today, he may know of someone closer who can do a satisfactory re-cone for you. Weber also offers re-coning services for older OEM speakers......that might be a viable option too.

You might want to check this place out in Nashville,I haven't used them but I would give them a try if I needed something that was beyond what I could do.They say they can recone speakers.
