Rex Allen lived just up the road from me, in Willcox. The town has a week-long celebration each October to commemorate his accomplishments. Tanya Tucker also lived in Willcox for a time.

Evidently Rex Sr. must have had a working relationship with Leo.
My buddy said when he met Leo and George, that Leo seemed quiet and was working on a small piece of metal in a lathe or something, and would take it out and pull a mic or something out of his shirt pocket protector and measure it,and then work on it some more, just piddlin' around.
he had his picture made with both of them....I thought that was pretty cool.

Hey, try a good 5U4GB (like the famous Tungsol) and you may never go back. These are really great in older dual-6L6GC amps, whose front end are setup a bit "looser" that how "tight" CBS-era ran some of the 12AX7.

Oh, yup those are US Army and Army Air Corps WW2 approval stamps on them precious 6V6GTY. I use the tubes in my 1964 PR.

I have one of these amps'60)with original P10Rs(I don't use them they're stored away)and absolutely love it!Mine looks almost the same inside 'cept,I have all orange drops and Sprague electrolyctics.Great in between tweed and black face and Marshall tones. My PT smoked probably due to beefing up of power supply(no ac hum and tight low end).MM will rework tranny for $300.00.We're lucky to own these amps. tyguy....they're great amps!
I think people are starting to "discover" the Brown amps and their great qualities like you mentioned.I've seen several articles lately praising these gems...for a long time they've been ignored by most people in favour of the tweeds and blackface amps.

Some super amps came from the factory with solid state rectifiers.Since yours had no tap for a tube rectifier, obviously,it came from the factory that way.I have the same amp a 1960(tube rectifier) with tweed era grill cloth like yours.Few of these amps match the schematics as these were the most experimental years for Leo's amps. The super is the only amp fender ever made that can get both fender and marshall tones(past 7 on volume). These high end amps have a presence control which makes for a rawer tone. The notes are thick, fat and round without the high end, thin note brittleness found in the blackface amps. Also the tone controls work better than on any other amp(incredible range)with tremendous bass response. As I had played blackface amps back in the '60's and '70's it did take a while for my ears to adjust to the super's fat tone but now,I'll never go back.Keep an eye out for these sleeper amps and get one. They're getting higher in price everyday.I've had mine for a long time and have been lucky by having vintage amps given to me or buying them for nothing.Enjoy! You've got all the amp you'll ever need. Just a note:for you super reverb guys this is a mod that works well for smoothing out thin high end.Replace the treble tone cap a 250pf(from 2nd preamp tube)with a 320pf.If you don't like it it's easy to change back.
