I ve got a 1966 Vibrolux reverb amp for many many years now
and I need new tubes.(A blackface).Ok,I know the type of tubes that fit but I cant
get the orinal ones. If anyone out there, tryed some or knows which to
use,it would be a big help ...I must keep the oriinal sound [/b]

Welcome to the forum, Antonis ! If your budget can handle the older tubes, I've had good experiences with : http://hitestguitars.com/. I'd give Greg Levy a call. He is a hyper tube testing kind of guy and very helpful. If you know the plate voltage for the power tubes, he'll pick out the very best tube(s) for the job. Art

Steve Melkisethian offers a nice selection of NOS tubes for Fender amps at reasonable prices. Check his site out here......

Best of luck, HTH

Thanks for the suggestions. I just looked at those sites I didnt know you
can still buy those tubes. But most of them are realy expensive.I guess I''ll
have to wait a little longer to replace them .Any cheaper options...?

"I must keep the oriinal sound"

You better decide where your real priorities lie first.

Yep, you're welcome, Reb. Hey Antonis, you don't need to do a full retube all at the same time. In fact, I've never done that with my amps, just don't have the bucks for that. Instead, I prioritize my needs into groups. IMO The rectifier and power tubes are the most important, in terms of not wanting them to short out completely. Sure , we'd all like to have RCA blackplates, but GE and Tungsol are great sounding tubes in the BF amps. If it takes 2yrs to retube with NOS, that's cool. As long as the trannies are protected with reliable components and reliable tubes. Good Hunting ! Art

Man,I'm really tempted to buy some Tung-Sol 5881s from Greg......$165 a matched pair!
But still they're Tung-Sol.

I'm hoarding a matched pair of NOS brown-base JAN Tung-Sol 5881's lest something "tweed" or "brown" one day find its way to me......

I've never had a matched pair of Tung-Sol 5881s,are they great sounding Arjay?......most of my vintage amps use 6V6s except the Pro Reverb, which I have a pair of Philips in.

They sound FAT.

No 6G4 should leave home without them.
