So here's another potential CL find.

A guy near me has what he claims to be a '74 Silverface Bassman 50 head and matching cabinet. Of course, I'll check the serial numbers just to be on the safe side, but I'm wondering about the Bassman 50. I've never heard anything about these particular amps - are they different from the regular Bassman? Do they have a good reputation? Can it be used for guitar as well like other Bassman heads can? Also, he's asking $450 for the head and the cab. Good deal? Sorry for all the questions, but I really don't know much about this particular amp so I come before the experts. Thanks.

- Jeff

UPDATE: I was able to find the specs online and also found that the Bassman 50 was just the new name for the Bassman between 72-76. That answers that. I guess the only question now is, is it a good deal?

Assuming all of the amp's features work, there is no structual damage to the furniture, and the cosmetics aren't too badly hosed then yes......it's a good deal. Ask the seller to open up the speaker cab to ascertain the size and type of drivers installed before you buy.

$450 is a very good deal, that's what I paid for my 68 Bassman with a 69 2-15 cab about 10 years ago and I thought I was doing great at that price back then.

Well, unfortunately, the point is moot yet again. By the time I called the guy the Bassman was sold.

However, I might buy a brand new Blues Deluxe RI from him for $425. Not quite the same thing of course, but still a pretty good deal.
