Just got my son's Xmas wish list....... he wants an external speaker.

I gave him my SF Princeton over the summer. I have always been a small amp guy, so I have no knowledge on external speakers.

The Princeton has a 10". I am thinking a 2 x 12 would be the logical next step.

Looking at the Fender Field Guide.... the cabinet needs to be 8 ohm.... right?

Do I get a closed back or an open back?

Is there any brand that I should consider?

Will the Princeton push a 2 x 12?

I am thinking the Bandmaster VM 212?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The 12-watt Princeton is perfectly capable of powering a 2 x 12 cabinet......

This one sounds positively monstrous.

An 8-ohm enclosure is recommended and the Princeton's internal speaker should be disconnected for the sake of the amp's health. An open-back cabinet will produce a tone similar to a conventional 2 x 12 combo amp while a sealed-back bass-reflex type will have better defined low frequency response and will radiate in a more directional manner.

After looking around - I finally settled on a Jet Amp 2 x 12 (JCA24S)

Seems to have some flexibility - Back can be closed or open. Has two Eminence Legend speakers. Can be used for stereo if he every gets that advanced.

MF slashed their price on these from $299 to $219.

This vid pushed me over the top to get it.
