Has anyone ever tried this trick on a Fender? I've seen some Mesa-Boogies modified a to have this switch. Just wondering about the tone and any effects on reliability. I get the: "what can I do about too loud amp?" question all the time. Personally, that's why I love my Champs.

Thanks!

I've had a Torres kit in a drawrer for a year.(1K/5w screen grid resistors and DPDT switch) Got it for a Bassman conversion 2X10 combo, but haven't tried it yet. It's kind of a misnomer because the tube would be operatiing as a tetrode. The suppressor grid would still be doing it's job. At any rate, I'll let you know when I get it installed. Actually the preamp is still under design consideration. So I don't know when I'll get to it. Art

Thanks! I have a feeling the volume maybe just a bit less, but the tone maybe quite different. I'm guessing spongier.

Be interested in your results.

I have not tried it on a Fender, but I have a Carvin V16 two EL84s and it runs and sounds better in the pentode mode vs the triode. Seems like the triode mode does not do much to lower the volume in my amp, and it makes the sound a little thin and weak. Not a substantial difference but it is noticeable. Like playing with worn out power tubes. So I use the Pentode mode all the time even at lower volumes. I'm just speaking about the Carvin V16, other amps with different operations may vary with the switching from pentode to triode.
