I have an offer to buy a couple of sleeves of 1970's NOS/NIB TungSol 6Q11 triple-triode tubes. Has anyone had a problem using these tubes in place of the usual 6K11's seen in amps of this era?

Danke schöen!

Art, No I was told that the 6Q11 can take the place of 6K11. I don't know of any guitar amp that use 6Q11 stock. I think they may have been used in old TV's.

The 6K11/6Q11 is a triple-triode most commonly used as a combined sync/AGC/noise inverter tube in TV tuners. According to my RCA receiving tube manual (RC-27), their typical operating parameters are identical.

Arjay, Thanks! Maybe a good deal, then. See how they test. Now, to find someone with a Compactron-able tester...

My curiosity has gotten the better of me......

After looking this tube's architecture over, I cannot fathom any use for audio applications.

Why the sudden interest in a 6K11/6Q11?

If you want to use them to built amp, you'll need 12 pins socket, Where can you find these sockets ?

Or to replacement in wich amps ?

I don't see any use of these tubes but I'd like to know what you want to do with.

Arjay, the 6K11 goes into certain 1970's Ampeg V2, V4 and V22 amps. Supposedly close to 3 X 12AX7 triodes in one tube. And some early 1970-80's pedals. I get these Ampegs every now and then, as some guiatarists swear by their tone. Wouldn't live without them.

Hard to find good, quiet, well-balanced NOS 6K11. So, when this offer for the NOS/NB TS 6Q11 came up, wondered if they would work. Seems to be a good deal. $50 per sleeve of 5. Two sleeves.

Seems like a righteous deal, BMW2002Ti.

I wasn't aware that they were used in the vintage Ampegs, thanks for the info.

Arjay, Just got the tubes today. In original boxes. Hey! That's gotta make them sound better, right? Compared to RCA 6K11, the TungSol's have a very obvious interplate shield (chrome color). And a side getter blast, as opposed to most RCA's which are "chrome tops." Very similar to the construction of genuine TS 6CG7 versus RCA's or GE's.

Thanks! For your answers.

Do you have a VT22 or V4 around to check them out with?

I see 6D10 ,a triple triode in Ampeg model EJ-12A, a 6U10 ( triple triode) in a GS-12-R Reverbrocket 2.

6BK11 ( not 6K11) in a Ampeg J-12-D Jet

Huh....I'll have to look through my boxes of NOS tubes and see if I have any of those,I bought out the remaining stock of a TV repair shop years ago and have hundreds of tubes that I have no use for.

Same here, RS.

I inherited seven Xerox boxes full of NOS tubes from the '40s, '50s, and '60s but only a little more than two boxes' worth had applications for audio gear. I ended up selling the remainder to a local amateur radio club for $35 per carton. So for my trouble I got enough NOS glass to keep my vintage Fenders humming along for a few more years plus $175 cash. The tubes I kept included over three dozen blackplate RCA 6L6GC's (the holy grail!) which, by themselves are worth a couple of grand.

Life is good......
