HELLO!!! I was wondering what type of maintence I SHOULD DO . I mean everything is original. What can I DO to make this amp sound its best,,(IM SURE THE AMP TECH WILL TAKE CARE OF THAT) I mean, should I put IN higher quality speakers and tubes? WHATS considered the best now? I thinkk when it comes to preference, were all on the same page here. thanks.!!!!

I would just play it for awhile and see how it sounds...new tubes will always be a good, easy thing to try,the new production tubes are affordable and everyone has their own preference.....I've been using NOS tubes that I've had for years, but have seen good reviews on the "Winged C" tubes that were formerly Svetlana....do some research on them.
As far as speakers,if they're original and in good shape they could sound good or just okay depending on what kind they are.
I always put new Webers in my amps but others like the Reissue Jensens.I just put the originals back and save them,if you play old speakers you run the risk of blowing them,if you save them in good shape,(and anything else you replace),you can include the original parts if you sell the amp.
And I always replace the cord with a 3 prong,if the original cord is on the amp, that's for safety.
All of this can be done over time, except the cord, that's the first thing I replace.
Others will chime in on this...there are some VERY knowledgable people here.

As rebelsoul mentioned, a grounded 3-conductor power cable is a must and it should be the first thing you do. Likewise, ditch the "death cap" for additional peace of mind. Maintenance should include inspecting the chassis for any burnt, charred, or otherwise deficient components within. The electrolytic caps in the bias circuit and power supply should be replaced regardless of visual condition. Once you're certain that all is right, check the original tubes with a quality tube tester. If the power tubes need replacement they should be done as a matched pair. For maximum efficiency the idle bias must be checked and adjusted if necessary. Likewise, the 12AT7 phase inverter tube (V6) should have balanced transconductance between both halves to extend the service life of the power tubes. You'll find a variety of opinions regarding tube brands on this (or any) forum. IMO the best tubes are the older NOS types which cost more because they are worth more. YMMV

As to speakers, those are easily replaced if necessary by whatever suits your playing style and your ear. If the originals in the amp are Jensen C12P's, those usually sound pretty sweet. OTOH, the OEM Oxfords that were also used during this era are less so. Speakers, like tubes, are a subjective topic so some experimentation may be in order. A good replacement for damaged or worn-out drivers might be a pair of Weber 12A150s. These sound pretty close to the vintage Jensens -- warm, organic, with sufficient bite to cut through a mix.

Best of luck, HTH

Arjay
