I have an amp head that semi-survived the house fire. This was my very first amp and I bought back in 1993. Serial # is A45081. My question is if it would be something that is actually worth being restored (costwise)? and where does one obtain face and back plates? I tried to add photos to this post but no such luck. The head still works but has popping and scratchy sounds when the control knobs are turned.

Thanks
Mike

My sympathies, Mike.

Rest assured, any vintage Fender tube is amp is worth restoring. A fire is particularly devastating, however all is not lost. Silverface BMR faceplates turn up periodically on Ebay in varying cosmetic conditions. Another possibility is a new NOS silverface panel for a Super Reverb, which is a drop-on replacement (the BMR shares its chassis dimensions and specs with the SR). You can find one of those here......

They're not cheap but they are genuine Fender parts.

For a backplate, Mojotone stocks repros as regular production items. They have nothing specific for the BMR but the SR part is identical.

I've restored a number of Fender amps and built all-new replica cabinets to replace damaged and/or excessively-worn furniture......it's not as difficult as it seems with some basic woodworking skills and common hand tools.

For your amp's technical issues I'd recommend paying a visit to a qualified amp tech and letting him look the "victim" over and repair/recondition any damage before plugging it in and rocking out. BTW, according to the serial number your amp is a 1970 model.

Best of luck, HTH

Arjay

Thanks!! As for the restore im thinking of restoring the head and getting electronic savy on it too. The speaker cab was a complete loss. As for the firedamage on the head itself it just got a bit charred. Think it looks like a good fun project. Thanks again for the info.

PS. How do I post a pic of it so you can see what we are talking about?

Mike

You need to upload your photos to a remote hosting site such as Photobucket (PB is free). Each image will be assigned a set of specific tags for posting on various boards that use a number of different formatting methods. For this forum (Fender Community) use the tag that reads "IMG code" and post it with your message in a text. The pic will then be embedded within the text.
