I have a 52 Fender Deluxe Tweed and I suspect the speaker is not original. It is a Jensen C12R with a date code of 220202, which is supposed to mean Jensen, feb 52, so it probably is from the era, but it says "High fidelity loudspeaker, especilally designed for Thomas organ co." Could this have been the original speaker? It sounds fantastic, but it's got such a small magnet assembly at the back, it just doesn't look rock and roll enough.... Can anyone help me here?

Don't be dismayed at the small magnet assembly on the Deluxe. Your speaker may well be authentic. I've got a '58 Deluxe that I've had restored to original specs. By that time Fender was using Jensen speakers. The magnet assembly is equally small in comparison. When I first got the amp someone had put a JBL keyboard speaker in the thing. The magnet was HUGE. The amp lost about 15 pounds in weight when I had a reproduction speaker put in. Furthermore, it sounds like it's supposed to...fabulous. Check out Tom Wheeler's new book "The Soul of Tone" as soon as you can. There's lots of great information on all Fender amps. Great photos as well. Hope this helps.
