Yeah, I know the DSR is in the shop and I shouldn't be spending Mo' Money, but my 4x12 cab project continues. Recently purchased 2 12" 16ohm Sunn Guitar Transducer speakers, model 1216G, rated 60w rms. They have HUGE open-sided rectangular Alnico magnets and must weigh 8-10# each. They have aluminum center dust covers, baskets are either stainless or polished aluminum. Unfortunately, there are no production codes on baskets, or anywhere else I can find. Does anybody know who made these, or have any experience with using them? My guess would be they are '70's era, and the seller(who I trust) said they came out of a Sunn 2x12 cab, but he was unsure of the model. Haven't been able to hear them yet, but he described them as having a very Jensen-ish tone. I only paid $40 for the pair, so I'm not gonna be too disappointed either way. Any comments, help or info is much appreciated. Thanks,...O.

Sounds like the speakers from my Sunn Solarus, which I bought in 1970. I sold it a couple of years ago but the speakers sounded great.

Thanks, Gadabout. I was starting to think I had ventured into wholly uncharted waters with these speaks. I've been trying to do a little on-line research on Sunn products, which seem to be undergoing a resurgence in popularity particularly amongst the younger very herbally-influenced crowd. I guess if one listens to "Foghat Live!" enough times it all makes sense. Unfortunately, details about Sunn speaker manufacture prior to their acquisition by Fender are sketchy, confusing, and often downright contradictory. Fans, manufacturers, Sunn employees, and even the former owner all tell different stories. I have read that their speakers were made by JBL, Eminence, Pyle, and even Sunn itself (which seems least likely). As I mentioned, I can find no production codes on baskets, but I suppose it's possible that if speaks were re-coned in the past that a generic basket was substituted, but then why go to the trouble of ungluing and regluing the labels? Oh well, the quest continues. Thanks for your response, and if anyone else has experience with these, please let me know. Thanks, O.

I t has 3 scratches that were glued with a special glue. This is cosmetically only and has nothing to do with functionality.
