Totally agree with you Reb ! I've had to swallow my pride and get help from other folks, quite a few times. Hey that's life, I can dig it. It always works out for the best ! I know working on music in the band was the same type of thing. Art

Hey,

I pulled out the both of the 6L6 output-tubes. The amp has been running without blowing the fuse for over 5 mins. So what do you think now?

Thanks again,
Ross

One or 2 tubes are short or bias are too hot.

I think you saved the tech some time, by isolating the problem area. The components associated with the power tubes and the tubes are now the prime suspects. Art

Or like Arjay sed, could be bias power supply, also. Maybe check or have someone check the negative voltage off this part of circuit.

Yeah, I wasn't excluding the bias circuit. I consider that part of the output tube association. But Ross has narrowed the radius. BTW Ross can you check the resistance on the speaker cable plug ? Art

Without looking at it it's hard for me to say what's the matter, but have you tried testing the Power Tubes for shorts? Also sometimes a faulty Filter Cap will cause something like this. New or old, did he reverse the polarity on one of them? Just guessing.

Hey,
Thanks for all of your help, I had a new output transformer installed along with a grounded plug. The amp is up and running! I have played on it on for a few hours with no problems. I am planning to hit the studio with it later this month. Thanks again!

Cheers,
Ross

That's good news, Ross ! But the output trans ? Man, that was the last suspect on my list. Thanks for getting back to us. Art

Sounds swell, Ross!

All it would've taken would be a few shorted windings in the O/T. But that's a difficult problem to diagnose and isolate. Good catch and congrats to your amp tech.

Rawk on!

Arjay

Yes, it was very hard to diagnose the Output Transformer, but I am glad we solved the mystery. The tech and I checked over everything, and he concluded that it must be the transformer. He said that he as only seen a transformer go bad a few times. I did keep the original transformer and have added it to my collection of old parts.

Thanks again!
