Looking to buy a 71 twin was wondering what they go for? and are there obvious signs to look for as far as the condition of the amp? This will be my first tube amp new territory. Thanks for any help.

$700-800, tops. $1000 if it has the JBL speaker upgrade.

You might jiggle the cabinet and see if the corners are still glued together. Fender abandoned lock-joined corner construction with the end of the 1969 model year. Also check to see if the velcro-attached grill cloth frame is still sturdy and doesn't fall off due to vibrations when the amp is dimed.

Best of luck, HTH

Welcome to the forum 93 strat ! As far as $value goes, I'd look at E Bay, Craigs List, the Fender Field Guide, and Arjay's estimate(and advise). From my point of view, the maintenance and use would be very important. I'd be adamant about seeing pics of the chassis interior and giving the amp a good test drive. If possible have a tech look it over before you make any commitment. JJ's link is very good reading ! Good Hunting ! Art

The '71 Twin Reverbs were the last of the non-MV models and are likely the AA270 circuit revision. They won't have quite the snap and sparkle of the original AB763 (what circuit does?) but they don't have the tone-robbing grid caps on the output tubes like the notorious AC568 or AA1069 Twins. The '71 amps -- like all of the non-AB763 platforms -- use a "balance" control rather than a true adjustable bias pot to match the 6L6s. They're generally a pretty reliable amp when set up to factory service specs.
