I just bought a 1970 deluxe reverb that is stock, including the original Oxford speaker, cone and all. It sounds great, but I wonder if I should swap out the speaker to protect it. I plan to use the amp with my band and I would hate to ruin the speaker. I don't think that the amp was used very much and I wonder if cranking it after all these years will damage the cone. For that matter, should I replace the tubes too if they're original? They sound great, but I don't want ruin them. If the answer to any of the above is yes, any suggestions on suitable replacements. Thanks.

If you think your DR sounds good now, wait until you hear it with a real speaker.

There is nothing redeeming about an Oxford 12K5 ceramic -- better to remove that pie tin and preserve it for "posterity".

Try a Weber 12A150 with light doping, a hemp cone alnico Tone Tubby, or a JBL D120F. The improvement will blow you away.

+1 on the Weber. My 65 Bassman sings with the 12F150's, light dope. Saved the Oxford's though.......... 8) Mike

The Scumbacks and Scumnicos are getting quite a bit of attention lately.

They are built to spec by Weber for Scumback.
