i have a twin Reverb amp that is in fair condition, it plays great but has a few bad places on the outside corners. I think it's a 74 model because it has a blue or aqua face. My question is that I am thinking of trading it in for a new reissue 65 twin reverb. Would that be a mistake?

The older hand-wired amps are easier to service while the newer re-issues are closer to the "holy grail" AB763 circuit.

Thus, your choice boils down to maintainability vs tone.

I suppose I just didn't want to trade down in value. I have played through the new reissue and I really love the way it sounds, but I am just a living room player.

Hey Morris, doesn't matter where you play ! Your ears are the ultimate judge. I don't really see the value trade-off as being that important. Don't know that the '74's are all that $ valuable. IMO go for the sound you think that you'll be happy with ! Welcome to the forum ! Art

+1

I have two Twin Reverbs -- a blackface re-issue and an ultra-linear silverface from '78. Both sound pretty good to my ears. Otherwise and I wouldn't keep them around.

For smaller venues -- like your home, utility jams with buddies, open-mic nights at a club, or the occasional saloon gig -- you might give the Deluxe Reverb re-issue a listen......they're mighty sweet amps too.

Best of luck, HTH

Thanks guy's, on another subject I have a 2004 SRV that is also the fifty year anniversary Stratocaster and I hate it, I played it once and put it back on the wall. It was one of the dumbest things I ever did, I bought it for it's looks. I don't like jumbo frets and big strings, anybody interested I would trade it for a reissue Twin Reverb.
