I just picked up a fender super six off of craigslist. Get this, its been made into an amp head. I got it with a 412 cab with vintage 30's but its bass response is fwompy and rediculous. Maybe the speakers are bad... And its huge, and heavy. So I want to go to a 212 probably. Im new to anything thats not a combo so could anyone give me suggestions on what would be a good match for the head? Its basically a 100w twin. Thanks guys.

Have you checked the speaker wiring to ensure that they're all linked "in phase"? I find it hard to believe a 4 x 12 cab stuffed with V30s doesn't have any bass response.

The most economical method to return that amp to a combo configuration is to grab a ready-made TR replacement cab from Mojo or Newell. It'll be both lighter and stronger than an original Fender box from the era.

Good luck

Arjay

The Super Six and Quad were pretty much 100 watt Twins with different speaker configurations. All loud, all really heavy great sounding amps IMO.

Yep, What they said ! That amp wants to see a 4ohm speaker load. So a little investigation might help with the 4X12. A friend of mine actually cut his 4X12 Marshall cab in half, for the sake of versatility. Added a top and bottom, dressed them up some so they could still be stacked firmly, and look good. I'll tell you what, it turned out pretty cool. This guy has no problem using a saw to fix things, luckily I take care of his Mesa Boogies ! Art

Both amps became ultralinear when CBS increased their power to 135 watts in the late 1970s.

Albert Collins was a long-time Quad user.

And this is relevant to the gentleman posting the original question because...... :?:

Why don't you lecture us about logos while you're at it?

Me neither, but there was a time I thought, a Quad Reverb would really make me the best Blues rhythm guitar player around ! Looking back, maybe that was the key I missed ! Art
