With my never ending search for a great clean Strat tone I decided to pick up this beauty today!

I've always shied away from vintage amps, always worried about something falling apart and I'm not technical when it comes to amps. But it seems like in order for me to get the tone I'm looking for I kinda have to go that route.

According to Professor Arjay it's a 67. A BIG thank you goes out to Arjay for all his help and for pointing me in the right direction. All that's left is to match this thing with the right speaker(s) combo and I'll be all set, I hope :)

Congrats! I have a bandmaster as well and really love the sound - deep fender clean for days. If you search on my posts, you can see what I did to mine which may give some pointers.

I have a '67 SF DR it's just like my '66 BF DR....those early SF are fine amps.

Thanks guys! I got lucky I guess, it's in great shape and sounds sweet! I'm only running it thru a 1x12 cab now and it's not enough, at the store I played it thru a 2x12 with V30s and it sounded amazing! I'm working on getting the right cab...

I love the tone of the DRRI but the flabbiness is getting annoying, so I wanted something with a little more headroom and with that sweet Fender tone, and this amp delivers! My 335 loves this amp :D

So these showed up today :D

Image

Scored them on ebay, fat bottle STR 6L6, not really sure what's special about 'em... I know one thing, they sound amazing!

What is a safe # to bias these at? I've tried 40, 50, my ears seem to prefer 50, but I don't want to over do it.

Thanks Art! I tried looking up Weber's site earlier cuz I have a Bias Rite but unfortunately they got some page saying they're freezing them temporarily since they're having issues... I just looked up a cached page and found it.

Since the voltage is around 450 I'm gonna go with 47 mA and leave it alone.

try newellamps for cabinets, either for a 2x12, 1x15, or a 2x12 combo which is what I got. Confuses the heck out of folks but it sounds great.

As for reverb, I've got a princeton reverb for that and I don't miss reverb on the Bandmaster or my Mini Z, especially playing live. I'd go a few months playing to see if you really miss it. I do have a analog slap delay and a longer Digital delay on my pedalboard, so that may be also why I don't miss it.

Thanks Ned, I'll check 'em out, been looking at Avatar and Mojo cabs. That's a nice combo you got, what speakers are in there?

I still prefer reverb when playing at home, but if playing out somewhere it won't matter as much.

When you're used to reverb it sounds weird to play an amp without it,that is until you play the amp for awhile and see it doesn't need reverb to sound great....the variety is nice, and reverb gets lost in the mix sometimes.....unless you're really "surfy".

I agree Rebel, I've had reverb for 20+ years, so whenever I plug in and it's not there it takes a while for my ears to adjust.
